“Battle at Big Rock” Short Film Occurs A Year After “Fallen Kingdom”

Battle at Big Rock Short film FX
Battle at Big Rock

While we (eagerly? cautiously?) wait for Jurassic World 3 to be released in 2021, there’s a short film getting ready to premiere on FX this Sunday night. Titled Battle at Big Rock, the short film picks up after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

For some reason, the Jurassic World franchise is adamant on having genetically engineered dinosaurs running around in the open and creating issues for the human race. The upcoming short film, directed by Colin Trevorrow, is set a year after Fallen Kingdom.

Okay, I’m going to say it.

How many dinosaurs did that crazy little clone girl release at the end of Fallen Kingdom? Maybe around 15? At least, not more than 20, right?

So, Battle at Big Rock wants me to believe humans have been unable to round up (and kill) all of the escaped dinosaurs in a year? You want me to believe rich people didn’t fund hunting trips to catch them all as trophies?

Y’all, Jurassic World 3 is going to be a mess.

Here’s the official description for the short:

Battle At Big Rock is a short film that takes place one year after the events of Fallen Kingdom. It’s about a family on a camping trip to Big Rock National Park, about 20 miles from where the last film ended. There have been a few sightings, but this is the first major confrontation between dinosaurs and humans.

Trevorrow co-wrote the short film with Emily Carmichael. He’s co-writing the third installment in the Jurassic World series with her as well.

Apparantly, the short is giving us two new dinosaurs: a Nasutoceratops and an Allosaurus.

It felt like a first step into a larger world after the last film,” Trevorrow shared with Collider. “You have these animals loose in an unfamiliar environment, they’re disoriented, struggling to adapt. The first people they run into are bound to be camping. I wanted to see that.”

“This is the movie I’ve been wanting to make since we started,” he added. “It’s a celebration of everything we love about the franchise and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. You’ll hear more about it soon.”

After airing this Sunday on FX, the short will be made available online come Monday.

There’s also a Jurassic World animated series in the works for Netflix.

How would you fare if you knew there were dinos running around outside? Let us know.
