The undead hordes continue to be part of pop culture. However, the way the lore and main narrative is handled are the things that will get me to watch zombie-centric content. Even though I’m not a fan of Z Nation, the upcoming prequel series, Black Summer, does look interesting.

I love when creators put a spin on zombie-centric content. I still think In the Flesh was too early for its time and I want it to come back. Shaun of the Dead is always fun to watch. Anna and the Apocalypse is another enjoyable comedic zombie story. Also, you should consider watching Kingdom, a South Korean zombie period piece which has been greenlit for a season 2. Santa Clarita Diet is good, too. So, let’s see what Black Summer has in store for us.

The upcoming Netflix show is technically a prequel to Z Nation. Will it be better than The Walking Dead? I sure hope so. TWD continues to be a mess.

Black Summer is set in the early days of the undead outbreak. You can see a lot of confusion and panic in the trailer.

The show will focus on Jamie King’s character, Rose. She is a mother who gets separated from her daughter and will do anything to get her back. Also, is it just me or does King look like she could play Margot Robbie’s sister?

While Z Nation has a comedic element to it, Black Summer seems to be going for the scare factor and a more grounded approach. It might go off the rails as the story progresses, who knows at this point.

The first season will only consist of eight episodes. It will debut on Netflix on April 11, 2019. I see diversity in the casting. So, that’s a good thing.

Are you excited about Black Summer? Are you done with zombie-centric content? Let us know.
