“LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash” – DVD Review

LEGO Scooby-Doo Blowout Beach Bash

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released an enjoyable kid’s movie in LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash. It made me remember the old cartoon series.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

One of the things I enjoyed about LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash is that it featured an impressive veteran voice cast that includes Grey Griffin, Frank Welker, Kate Micucci and Matthew Lillard. The new film in the Scooby-Doo franchise was executive produced by Sam Register, Jill Wilfern, Jason Cosler, and Robert Fewkes. It has been directed by Ethan Spaulding. The script’s from Emily Brundige and Aaron Preacher, with Rick Morales serving as a producer.

Here’s the official synopsis!

Scooby-Doo! and his pals Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy are no strangers to solving spooky mysteries filled with all types of ghouls and goblins. This time is no different. As Scooby-Doo! and his friends are on their way to Blowout Beach for a real swinging beach party in the Mystery Machine, the Ghost Pirates threaten to ruin the gang’s good vibes. It is up to Scooby and the gang to get the party back on track, without missing a beat.

Check out the enjoyable trailer!

Coming to the review, I liked how Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo aren’t looking for a mystery but still find themselves solving one. Having grown up with these characters, I just want them to take a long vacation. The Mystery Inc. gang has been through a lot.

Scooby-Doo LEGO blowout beach bash dvd reviewThe mystery has to deal with ghost pirate attacks and its link to people abandoning the beach. In true Scooby-Doo fashion, the gang starts collecting clues which point to lost treasure. While the story isn’t complex, it’s still fun to see the gang try and solve it.

There are also songs in this film that made me remember the old Scooby-Doo cartoon series. The main characters kept their original personalities, including trademark catchphrases.

I liked the LEGO styled animation. LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash has some action sequences but it is all kid-friendly violence. Everything looked well-detailed, bright, and colorful. The video quality of the DVD is 16×9 Widescreen (1.78:1). Also, kudos for bringing back some of the voice actors who’ve been with this franchise for a very long time. The sound quality of the film (Dolby Audio 5.1 Surround) was nice so no complaints there. Subtitle options include English SDH, French, and Spanish.

The extra cartoons include:

  • Scooby Doo, Where Are You! in “Go Away Ghost Ship” (22:09)
  • Scooby Doo, Where Are You! in “A Clue for Scooby-Doo” (22:07)
  • Be Cool Scooby-Doo! “Party Like It’s 1899” (22:16)

Just so you know, the Blu-ray Combo Pack includes the DVD as well as a Digital HD copy. The Blu-ray video is 1080p High-Definition 16×9 Widescreen (1.78:1) along with English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 / French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio. It too contains extra cartoons (the same as the DVD version).

LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash is definitely a fun, kid-friendly film that fans of Scooby-Doo (old and new, alike) can enjoy. You can join the conversation on social media by using #LEGOScoobyDoo.

LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash is currently available as a Blu-ray Combo Pack (retailing for $24.98 SRP) and DVD (retailing for $19.98 SRP). It was released on Digital HD on July 11, 2017.
