Boba Fett Joins List of Star Wars Anthology Films

Boba Fett

Well, it’s official: we’re getting a Boba Fett movie.

Entertainment Weekly released the currently-known schedule for Star Wars movies through 2020, and the final anthology installment releasing that year is an untitled Boba Fett project.

Of course we already knew about Rogue One, which at the moment has a release date of December 16, 2016 – less than a year until another Star Wars movie, guys! – but it’s also great to see that Episode VIII has a scheduled date of May 26, 2017. We don’t even have to wait two full years! What an amazing time we’re living in, am I right? Especially as The Force Awakens gave us an amazing female lead, and Rogue One is doing so as well!

Casting rumors for the Han Solo film have been flying for a while now, and I definitely hope we hear about our young Han soon, although that movie won’t be released until May 25, 2018 so sadly we probably have a while to wait before finding out who lands this whale of a role.

All that said, the idea of a Boba Fett movie has been strongly rumored since Disney/Lucasfilm first started announcing their plans for the Star Wars franchise, but to be honest I hoped that it would remain a rumor. Thanks to the prequels, we already know where Boba Fett came from, and I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that a movie showing what happened to him after that is more fanservice than anything else. Boba Fett is, after all, insanely popular. But hey, maybe they’ll do the character more justice than what we’ve seen so far – that’s probably the best thing I’m going to hope for from this particular Anthology film.

And hey, at least we’ll also have Episode IX in 2019. No matter how we look at it, there’s a lot to look forward to!

So, readers, what are your thoughts on the upcoming Anthology movies, particularly the one about Boba Fett?
