BookCon 2019: DC Reveals Details, Artists, Covers & More For Upcoming YA Graphic Novels!
A whole lot of information was shared during the DC Ink panel at BookCon 2019! Read on to learn about the publisher’s upcoming Young Adult graphic novels, a new trailer for Raven, artists and covers for the Spring 2020 slate, and more!
The BookCon 2019 DC Ink panel featured authors Kami Garcia (Teen Titans: Raven), Danielle Paige (Mera: Tidebreaker), Lauren Myracle (Under the Moon: Catwoman), and Mariko Tamaki (Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass).
A trailer for Teen Titans: Raven was shared. Fans will be able to read it come July 5, 2019. It was written by New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia (Beautiful Creatures). Gabriel Picolo illustrated the upcoming graphic novel.
Maybe the fact Raven is already young in DC comic books might help her YA-centric origin story fare better with fans. I think, one of the reasons the Catwoman and Mera YA graphic novels didn’t do well is because we are more familiar with adult Selina and Mera. Their “new” YA origins just didn’t work on numerous levels.
DC Super Hero Girls has done a far better job of presenting kid-friendly versions of iconic comic book characters.
The first look for Teen Titans: Beast Boy (from Garcia and Picolo) was also shared. The Garfield-centric graphic novel will be released sometime in 2020.
DC ended the discussion by announcing the artists for previously announced YA graphic novels debuting in Spring 2020 and giving fans a first look at the covers.

For those who don’t know, DC Ink is a new young adult graphic novel line from DC. “The line introduces DC’s most iconic superheroes to a new generation of fans with stories told by some of the most successful authors from the young adult publishing space. DC Ink titles are standalone stories, not part of DC’s ongoing continuity, and completely accessible to new readers who have no previous knowledge of DC characters.”
