iZombie 4×3: Brainless in Seattle, Part One

iZombie Brainless in Seattle Part One

iZombie is starting to get into its season four groove, and “Brainless in Seattle, Part One” is the first two-part story of the season. Between Liv’s lovelorn 90s rom-com brain and the coyote conspiracy, this was a pretty entertaining episode with a surprising amount of plot movement for a multi-episode arc.

I want to start off by saying that I had the hugest grin on my face when it was revealed that Sam Huntington was a guest star in “Brainless in Seattle, Part One.” Sure, his screen time was short, but I am such a fangirl, and to see him on my favorite show was just too much for me to handle. It was also too much for Liv to handle, and their scenes together were fun to watch. With Alan cleared of Annie’s murder, it looks like we are done with Sam on the show (sad face). But can I just say how fun it was to see all of the 90s rom-com references? And this is coming from someone who was never into romantic comedies. Obviously the Ravi makeover scene and the dance party were highlights from the referenced genre.

iZombie Brainless in Seattle Part One

This coyote storyline is confusing to me–there is always one in iZombie that makes me think I totally missed something, and this would be season four’s. I am having a difficult time determining who is good and bad, and whose side we should be on. Renegade just seems like such a decent person, and I want her to be a good informant for Liv and Clive. I guess we will have to see how it plays out, but with Blaine now on the move, who knows how it will go. “Brainless in Seattle, Part One” obviously is painting Blaine back into the baddie role, and frankly, I am okay with that. David Anders is just so good as the villain.

The storyline that I cared the least about in this episode is everything having to do with Fillmore Graves. I just don’t care anymore. How could this company turn so many humans into zombies and then run out of brains within just a few months? It doesn’t make any sense, and my eyes glazed over as we were learning about the Darwin Project and their ongoing relationship with the humans. I know that I am supposed to care and it will all be important later, but I am seriously hoping for a big payoff because Major being the only liaison to the arc just isn’t working for me.

Overall, “Brainless in Seattle, Part One” was such a fun episode. I loved seeing Ravi let loose with the bachelorette party, Peyton still relying on Ravi and keeping their relationship civil, Don E doing his own business dealings, and Clive’s amazing one-liners. The one thing that we didn’t see and I didn’t miss: Angus. Please, less Angus and more anything else.
