“Captain America: Civil War” Gave Sharon Carter the Coolest Easter Egg

SharonCarter

Now that Captain America: Civil War is in cinemas pretty much everywhere, we can start to dissect it. There’s all kinds of cool winks and nods in Civil War, but Sharon Carter A.K.A “Agent 13” definitely got the best one.

THERE ARE SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT. SERIOUS SPOILERS. BEWARE YE WHO READ BEYOND THIS POINT!

At Peggy Carter’s funeral – yes, she dies, I told you there were spoilers, to be fair she was very old it’s not really that shocking – Peggy’s niece Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) gives an empowering and heartbreaking eulogy. During this eulogy Sharon attributes this quote to her Aunt Peggy:

Compromise where you can. And where you can’t, don’t. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right, even if the whole world is telling you to move. It is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say, ‘No. You move.’

It’s basically the final nail in Steve’s decision not to sign the Sokovia Accords – the film’s quasi replacement for the Superhero Registration Act. It totally sounds like something Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) would say, but comics fans will recognise these words from source material.

The film is very different from the comic event, so these words are not Peggy’s but instead come from Captain America himself. He says them to Spider-Man when he’s trying to get him to switch sides. Basically Steve’s giving himself a pep talk.

Other notable easter eggs in Captain America: Civil War include: Falcon’s drone named Redwing like the comic book character’s actual real life falcon, T’Challa’s unnamed bodyguard who is probably a member of the Dora Milaje, and Black Widow asking the Winter Soldier to remember her.
