Charades Is Life: Doom Patrol at NYCC 2022

Doom Patrol NYCC

Hold on to your butts, everyone! The HBO Max original series Doom Patrol returns with Season 4 in December, and the cast was on hand at New York Comic Con last weekend to tease the upcoming season.

If you sit down with someone unfamiliar with Doom Patrol and try and explain the series to them, you will sound ridiculous. I know, because I had two gentlemen in the press room hilariously try and catch me up before our interviews started. If I hadn’t already been exposed to the killer butts in Season 1, I probably would have thought they were nuts.

But then you look at the teaser trailer for Season 4, which was released during the NYCC panel on Sunday, and it includes the killer butts doing a musical number, and you sit back and think, “Oh, that’s just how that show is.”

The cast revealed that there will be a musical episode in Season 4, and it’s entirely possible that the scene of butts singing “Shipoopi” is not even from the musical episode. Because that’s just how insane this series is.

I was fortunate enough to be in the press room and talk to cast members April Bowlby (Rita Farr/Elasti-Woman), Joivan Wade (Victor Sonte/Cyborg), and Michelle Gomez (Laura de Mille/Madame Rouge) about what we can expect in Season 4. For example, the aforementioned musical episode, which April was quick to let us know that she is not very good at. There also seems to be a bit of a contest as to who can be the best at charades, which the cast plays on their downtime on set.

Doom Patrol returns for Season 4 with a special two-episode premiere on December 8. Weekly episodes will continue through January 5, and six more episodes will be released in 2023 after a hiatus.
