I love visiting Chicago; it’s a beautiful place, I have friends there, and I always have fun. It’s also a city that hosts many amazing geeky activities (for instance, C2E2 earlier this year), which of course is another draw. It’s great that I’m able to combine my love for Chicago with those geeky activities, so it shouldn’t be very surprising that my next visit is basically planned around the Chi Wizard Tournament 2016!

This year marks the fourth annual Tournament, a bar crawl that takes place in Wrigleyville in downtown Chicago on Saturday July 9th, 2016. The theme – “Fantastic Drinks and Where to Find Them” – is pretty perfect considering the fast-approaching release of the next wizarding world movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Hundreds of participants have already registered, and due to popular demand they have extended ticket registration for the Chi Wizard Tournament 2016 until tomorrow – June 18th – at midnight.

Registration simply involves purchasing a t-shirt (that comes with matching sunglasses!) for each member of your party, and filling out your basic information…including a Team Name, of course. So if you’re interested in attending, sign up soon and claim the funniest team name you can. Some of the Chi Wizard Tournament 2016 team names that have already been announced include “Whiskey is Our King” and “Highway to the Granger Zone”…and of course I have to give a shout-out for my own team name, “Ten Pints for Gryffindor!”

The crawl begins at 11 AM and concludes at 4 PM with stops at Country Club, Rockwood Place, Deuce’s, and Casey Moran’s. Each location is offering several drink specials, including ones whose names you will only know if you solve the Harry-Potter-themed riddles posted on the Chi Wizard Tournament 2016 Facebook event page.

In fact, that’s part of the rules/ways to win the Tournament – having all of the correct riddle answers and submitting them before July 9th. Other ways to increase your chances of winning are uploading a team photo to Instagram during the crawl (using the proper hashtags, of course), and winning 10 challenges against 10 different teams. Of course the challenges are all Harry-Potter-Themed as well – from the simple “Parchment, Scissors, Bludger” (a.k.a. Rock-Paper-Scissors) to the Harry-Potter-knowledge-testing “Lumos”, which you’ll only win if you know the most spells.

All I know is that this Hufflepuff can’t wait to don her House gear and join in on what is sure to be a day of crazy fun, and if you want to participate as well but haven’t yet registered for this year’s event, make sure to do so soon!
