If you love attending conventions, we at The Geekiary want to know your opinions on why you choose the ones you do, what you enjoy about them, and more!

This data could very well determine what our writers cover when we post convention recaps.

Feel free to comment with more information if this survey doesn’t cover all that you love about conventions…and you never know – your contributions could help shape the convention of your dreams!

(This survey will end at midnight on March 26, 2014)

  1. I’d be interested to see what your results for this are. After KudosCon’s Kickstarter didn’t get funded it left me wanting to work on something similar. The original creators of that project have been unresponsive to my emails, but I’m still itchy to make something like that happen.

    1. We’ll definitely be sharing results 🙂 Of course the survey is going on for a month because I wanted to gather as much information as possible.

There have been several conventions that were funded completely by Kickstarter – Walker Stalker Con (Walking Dead convention in Atlanta last year) is one I know of, and recently one of our authors wrote about Bite Con (Teen Wolf convention in California this April), which was as well. So it’s definitely possible! So far I can say that it seems as if the majority of people lean toward donating to convention Kickstarters, but only if they’ll get perks for doing so 🙂

      1. Did you see anything about KudosCon? The thing I loved about the concept was that it wasn’t for a specific fandom, it was a convention to celebrate fanworks. Something like that would be so super neat – panels about tropes! Characterization issues in RPF! Do you draw characters like their TV/movie actors or by how you picture them in your head? – and as far as I know, hasn’t been done before.

THAT is totally the kind of convention I’m craving.

        1. I hadn’t heard of it before you mentioned it, but I did google it and check out their website 🙂 I’m not really into the fan art/fanfic community, to be honest, but I think the idea is a good one. Perhaps they just didn’t advertise it/their kickstarter properly? I wonder if they contacted the admins of sites like Archive of Our Own and Fanfiction.net to try to get their support…

    2. I was thinking the exact same thing as I was answering these questions. I was so disappointed that they weren’t able to get funded.

Fandom is SO big, I think it’s just really hard to spread the word sometimes. I’m not sure what the solution is, but I think surveys and conversations like this are a good way to at least get the ball rolling. 🙂

  2. This is great. I’ve never been to a convention. My first will be this September at a Supernatural convention that I’ve spent way too much money on.

Also, I was wondering if you guys have anyone covering DestielCon this June? It is one con that I wish I could go to but just didn’t have the cash after paying for NJCon.
