“Cruel Summer” Season 2 Will Premiere This June!

Cruel Summer Season 1

The wait is finally over! Freeform has announced that Cruel Summer season 2 will premiere come June 5, 2023. The second outing in the anthology series will be back with an all-new cast of characters and story.

I really enjoyed watching Cruel Summer season one when it debuted back in April of 2021. And while the wait for the second season felt long (after the renewal in June 2021), I’m just glad to see that the series will definitely continue. And while I get that certain fans might not like seeing an all-new cast being introduced, I’m okay with it. I think trying to continue the storyline from the first season would have negatively impacted the overall unsettling vibe that it left things on.

Coming to what you can expect for the sophomore season, the narrative will stick to the first season’s storytelling technique. The upcoming mystery will also make use of three timelines and dual viewpoints as it involves a group of teens in drama and more. With the first season being during the 90s, the second one will be set in the Y2K era.

The story will take place in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest. Viewers will get to see the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship involving Megan (Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Eloise Payet), and Megan’s best friend Luke (Griffin Gluck). There’s a love triangle involved and a mystery that changes their lives forever. Look forward to seeing themes of abuse, betrayal, and jealousy.

The cast also includes Lexi Underwood, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, Sean Blakemore, Paul Adelstein, and Braeden De La Garza.

The first season of Cruel Summer ended up being very queer. So, here’s to hoping the second season also follows suit.

As for Gluck being part of the cast, I guess it is up to you if you want to support the show or not, considering his “alleged” past behavior.

Created by Bert V. Royal, Elle Triedman serves as the showrunner. Cruel Summer is produced and distributed internationally by eOne. It is executive produced by Triedman, Bill Purple, Tia Napolitano, and Jessica Biel via her Iron Ocean Productions.

Take note; Cruel Summer season 2 will have a two-episode premiere on June 5, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET/PT followed by subsequent episodes debuting weekly in the 10 p.m. timeslot.
