Cryptozoic Entertainment (leading creator of tabletop games and collectibles) and YUKE’S (a leading developer and publisher of video games) have announced the action/strategy digital card game DC Dual Force.

Licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on behalf of DC, the upcoming digital collectible card game (CCG) is currently in development by Cryptozoic. DC Dual Force will be published by YUKE’S sometime during the third quarter of 2022. I know it’s a long wait. But I’m here for such a game by Cryptozoic.

DC Dual Force will feature an all-new single-player experience that will draw on over 80 years of comic book history. Of course, fan-favorite characters from the DC Universe will be available to players at launch. More characters, including Super Heroes and Super-Villains, will be launched through future updates. DC Dual Force will be free-to-play. There’s no word yet if it will have in-game purchases or on which platforms it will be available.

The gameplay will allow fans to play through favorite comic book stories and earn rewards. You will be able to create decks consisting of Super Heroes and Super-Villains. Making use of character synergies and coming up with effective strategies will be an important aspect.

The creative team plans on releasing a comic story every week. With this game ready to dive deep into DC Comics history, I think it could urge certain players to read come classic comic book arcs. The weekly release could also work when promoting upcoming DC live-action or animated movies and series.

We feel incredibly privileged to have such unique access to the DC Universe,” shared Cory Jones, co-founder of Cryptozoic Entertainment. “As game makers and lifelong comics fans, this is really a dream come true. We are determined to deliver the definitive card game based on comic books.”

We are honored to have an incredible partnership with Cryptozoic and cannot wait to see the DC Universe come to life as a digital collectible card game,” commented Yukinori Taniguchi, President and CEO of YUKE’s.

Here’s the announcement trailer!

Judging by the trailer, it looks like you can even make Super Heroes fight each other. There are certain gameplay mechanics that seem familiar to me. For example, certain characters can gain a Shield or go Invincible for a set amount of turns. You can also use Minions. The character’s health, I guess, is showing up on the lower right corner of the card. I do like the colorful character designs.

You can get more details about the game by visiting DC Dual Force‘s official website. From what I can tell, the cards have been divided into Leaders, Minions, and Actions. From what I know about such collectible card games, I think the creation of your deck will depend on the Leader or Leaders you select. Minion cards, including Super Heroes and Super-Villains, will be used to protect the Leader/s. The Action cards are basically buffs that can be used to boost Minions, heal Leader and Minion cards, or for attacking your opponent. I take it the goal of this game is to defeat the opponent’s Leader cards. I’m so into this!
