Death of X Issue 2: Cyclops Reveals His Plan

Death of X Issue 2 X-Men Marvel Comics

Cyclops revealed his true intentions in Death of X Issue 2, and they aren’t going to end well for anyone.

Cyclops and his team of X-Men got to know about how fatal the Terrigen Mist is to mutants back in Issue 1 of the 4-part Death of X miniseries. While Storm tries to come to a sound decision with Medusa, Cyclops is ready for war in Issue 2.

Cyclops hasn’t been a character to root for ever since he killed Professor X during the AvX event. He became even more unlikable when he declared an all-out war against the Inhumans during the current miniseries.

Using the telepathic powers of Emma Frost and the Stepford Cuckoos, he tells every person on Earth how deadly the Terrigen Mists are to mutants. Furthermore, he declares the Inhumans to be liars. To worsen the already delicate situation, he adds that the mist could be poisonous to human beings, too.

After reading Death of X Issue 2, I’m not sure why Cyclops is acting the way he is. I get that he wants to save his race but going to war feels a bit too much. I still think that Scott died back in Issue 1, or is close to dying, and Emma is somehow controlling him.

There are fan theories about Cyclops being a mental projection. However, I think that mutants like Magik should be able to see through such a façade. Bottom line, there is something weird with the way Cyclops is acting and I believe Emma is to blame.

Death of X Issue 2 also showed Emma and Scott recruiting powerful mutants for their cause. They reached out to Magneto and he agreed to help. Magneto also went after Ulysses during the X-Men: Civil War II tie-in and the Inhumans couldn’t do anything about it. That is why I’m interested to see what role he’ll play now.

Death of X Issue 2 Storm

Storm definitely doesn’t want war. But what I can’t understand is why she hasn’t used her powers to keep the Terrigen Mists at bay from populated areas until they find a cure. If she wanted, she could also send the Terrigen Mists out of the Earth’s atmosphere. I really need an explanation for why Storm hasn’t done as such, because right now her not doing anything about the mists is coming across as a plot point the writers are deliberately ignoring to begin the upcoming Inhumans vs. X-Men event.

What did you think of Death of X Issue 2? Do you think Cyclops is right to go to war? Let us know.
