Emma Watson creates stir by tweeting quotes from Alan Rickman, and some people accuse her of pushing her feminist agenda!

The year 2016 started with the world losing two very important gems, David Bowie, and Alan Rickman. While I knew about Bowie, it was Alan Rickman’s Severus Snape that I grew up with. The cast of Harry Potter sharing their love for the deceased actor was expected; however, people reacting negatively to Emma Watson’s tweet took me by surprise.

On January 14, Emma Watson tweeted an image with a quote from Alan Rickman regarding feminism.

Immediately people on the internet reacted to it. Some retweeted the quote (it has been retweeted more than 70 thousand times as of my writing this) and shared their support for the actress and Rickman’s quote, while some saw it as Watson’s attempt to further her agenda.

Emma Watson is known to be very open regarding feminism and is a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. She also helped launch the HeForShe campaign. With such openness, there is bound to be reaction from people who don’t completely understand what being a feminist is truly about. This time it was due to the 25-year-old actress remembering a beloved actor.

I personally don’t find anything wrong with Emma’s tweet. There is nothing wrong with remembering people in the way you most related to them. Alan Rickman was a supporter of feminism, and I think that was one of the things about him that connected with Emma the most, and so she decided to share it with her followers through Twitter.

What most people are forgetting to mention is that Emma also tweeted other quotes from Rickman. What was her agenda behind those? Was she promoting swimming lessons in this one?

Or did she want everyone to take up acting in this one?

The internet has given everyone a voice, even a very negative one, and that’s something we all have to deal with. Whether people liked Emma tweeting Rickman’s quote about feminism or not, one can’t deny that the 69-year-old actor was a strong supporter of equal rights. It’s not as if she made up the quote herself. She just decided to share it in remembrance of him.

What did you think of Emma Watson tweeting quotes from Alan Rickman? Do you think she had some sort of an agenda behind it? Let us know!

  1. It struck me as yet another reason to admire Mr. Rickman, and mourn his loss. People just want to find something wrong in what other people like.
