Disney Acquires Fox! Will X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants Be Released?

The Disney-Fox acquisition has been approved by shareholders and of course, the most important question in the fandom right now is regarding the fate of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four franchises. Also, will X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants live-action films be released?

Bob Iger has secured his place in Hollywood history as the person who is all set to change the movie landscape with the Disney-Fox deal. During his current reign at Disney, he also acquired Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm. He even considered a presidential run. So, let’s see what fate has in store for the businessman.

The Disney-Fox acquisition is reported to be finalized in early 2019, handing complete control of a lot of media to Disney. Not only will the House of Mouse get the X-Men and Fantastic Four, Mickey Mouse will also be the owner of all Star Wars films, Alien, Predator, Planet of the Apes, Avatar, and more.

I’m personally interested in seeing what happens with the X-Men franchise. Even though Fox was able to release Deadpool 2, it has been pushing back the release dates for Dark Phoenix and New Mutants. There are rumors about the two films never seeing the light of day.

While I’m not sure if the rumors will end up being true, I can see the sense of not releasing any more X-Men films developed by Fox. Kevin Feige will want to introduce his versions of the famous mutants into the MCU and releasing more live-action films not associated with the MCU are just going to help keep the current cast in the minds of the audience longer.

Feige will want to recast all of the X-Men characters and, even if there is some fan backlash due to the two film not being released, a majority of the fandom is sure to grow excited when Feige reveals his cast for future X-Men live-action appearances.

Also, even though I am a fan of the X-Men franchise, Fox hasn’t been able to do it justice. Storm has continued to be used as a supporting character. There is no concept of a timeline. And after the atrocity that was X-Men: Apocalypse, and the fact I found myself wanting to fall asleep during Days of Future Past, I am happy not to see anymore X-Men films from Fox. It is time for Feige to work his MCU magic on the mutants.

The MCU is missing a roster of amazing and diverse female characters and the X-Men is full of them. While we will have to wait a while for a proper X-Men film, I wouldn’t be surprised if soft introductions are made for famous characters such as Storm, Wolverine, Professor X, and Jean.

Ororo Munroe needs to appear in Black Panther 2!

Speaking of a mutant that (probably) won’t be recast, I am looking forward to seeing Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool becoming a part of the MCU. Not only will Wade continue to give us an R-rated superhero franchise, fans will be able to enjoy much-needed queer superhero representation which has been missing from the MCU.

We are currently doing a giveaway of digital Deadpool 2 copies. So, come and enter!

YouTuber and movie critic Grace Randolph broke everything down about the Disney-Fox deal quite nicely in a new video!

So, there you have it. Even though I might end up being wrong about this, I don’t think releasing either Dark Phoenix or New Mutants will be a good move to make with the Disney-Fox deal getting closer to being finalized.

Also, are you interested in the upcoming Disney streaming service possibly offering a ton of Fox content as well? Let us know.
