Disney Live-Action Remake of ‘Peter Pan’ Casts Peter and Wendy!

Ever Anderson and Alexander Molony will be the first and second star (to the right, and straight on ’til morning) of Disney’s live-action version of Peter Pan

Variety has exclusively revealed that the two young leads of Peter Pan have been cast! Ever Anderson will play Wendy, and Alexander Molony will play Peter.

Ever Anderson has previously been seen in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and the Variety article also reported she will be cast as the young Natasha Romanoff in Marvel’s upcoming Black Widow movie. She is the daughter of actress Milla Jovovich.

Alexander Molony has worked as a voice actor on the Disney Junior show Claude. He’s a British actor from Bromley, England. It seems as though Disney are showing faith in two relatively unknown young actors; an excitingly experimental choice in this age of predictable remakes. It’s the kind of gamble that definitely paid off for them when they cast a similarly little-known Mena Massoud as Aladdin, for example, with the 2019 Aladdin film going on to be a huge box-office success.

Disney’s live-action remake series has been (depending on the person) described as a cash-grab, enjoyable nonsense, and even meaningful updates that modernize Disney’s old cartoon movies.

Whatever your personal feelings about them, the one word that definitely applies is unstoppable. Like it or not, these remakes are coming.

With Peter Pan, at least, it’s easy to feel as though Disney has a past they could improve on. The original cartoon featured racist designs and songs for the Native American characters.

When Hollywood took on the story as a live-action adaptation, Warner Bros studios cast white actress Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, causing outrage. Meanwhile, the underrated Universal Studios movie, Peter Pan (2003), set the standard by casting Carsen Gray, a Native American princess of the Haida tribe, in the same role.

If we’re lucky, as the casting announcements for Disney’s latest version continue, they’ll be following in Universal Studios’ footsteps. The recent casting of Halle Bailey in the role of Ariel for Disney’s upcoming The Little Mermaid live-action movie inspires hope that they just might.
