The always problematic JK Rowling is back in queer representation news due to her talking about Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s relationship in the extra content accompanying Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald home release. I need Rowling to stop already! She just continues to make things worse.

From what I can tell, Rowling has (again) confirmed Dumbledore and Grindlewald do have a relationship. It is supposed to be a queer one, but we shouldn’t hold our breath to have it be clearly confirmed onscreen. Rowling continues to pander to the queer community without actually delivering and I want her to stop already.

In the extra content, which will be available on The Crimes of Grindelwald Blu-ray, Rowling said, “Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship. But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows really what the other person is feeling. You can’t know, you can believe you know. So I’m less interested in the sexual side – though I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship – than I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationships.”

She shared this all so important piece of information at the 6:47 mark.

What the heck is wrong with her?

Why the heck does the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchise have numerous straight romantic pairings (many of whom even have children in canon), but Rowling pulls the brakes on showing anything romantic or sexual when it concerns Dumbledore and Grindelwald?

The only thing we got in The Crimes of Grindelwald was Albus saying he and Grindelwald were closer than brothers followed by a flashback where they held each other’s hand for a blood pact.

And then there is the fact Dumbledore and Grindelwald are the only queer characters we know of. One follows the gayngst trope (gay characters are eternally miserable) while the other is basically wizard Hitler.

Compare that to all of the romance the straight characters received, and we have Rowling as another example of a writer who is patting herself on the back for doing the least.

I can’t with her!

Let’s see what happens in Fantastic Beasts 3 which, in my opinion, has been delayed due to the mess that was Fantastic Beasts 2.
