With We Only Kill Each Other issue 5 releasing on March 15, 2022, we have an exclusive preview of the concluding chapter in the historical fictional comic series by writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Peter Krause.

For those who might not be familiar, We Only Kill Each Other is a comiXology Original series that deals with two Jewish gangsters opposing the Nazis present in New York City during the 1930s. Of course, the story’s based on actual events, with the current 5-issue series taking some fictional liberties to share an engrossing narrative.

The story, set in 1938, has a rising small-time gangster named Jonas Kaminsky needing to work with Levi Solomon to end the Nazi threat. Our leads have an interesting dynamic due to Jonas being involved in a turf war with Levi, an old-time mob boss with millions of assets tied up in booze, gambling, and other stuff. Even though Jonas doesn’t want to take part in stopping the Nazi threat at first, he soon finds out he’s got no other choice in the matter once things become too personal.

The first four issues deal with Jonas and Levi beginning to respect each other, in a sense, and planning to stop an assassination attempt while being chased down by the DA and Nazis. We Only Kill Each Other issue 5 will have Jonas and Levi getting on a train carrying the President and Nazi assassins. Fingers crossed both Jonas and Levi are able to survive the experience.

The connection between Nazis and US soil is an important historical fact. Not many realize the level of influence the Nazis held in the US during that particular time period. Similar stories can be seen in shows like Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. Amazon’s live-action series Hunters jumped some years ahead to 1977, following Nazi hunters living in New York City.
