Fan Artist Friday: BurntPixels

BurntPixels

Imagine that you’re planning a geeky wedding, and want something unique for centerpieces at the reception instead of the typical flowers and candles. How about some nerdy light boxes? Or how about the soft glow of the TARDIS to help you fall asleep at night? Christina Fidalgo of BurntPixels creates just those things, and I knew we had to have her for Fan Artist Friday.

As I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, I love nerdy decor that adds something special and unique to my home. Christina’s work is definitely unique, and I absolutely love the fact that her light boxes make great additions to any room for any age. Read on to learn more about Christina’s work.

What mediums do you work in?

I make light boxes that are laser-cut out of fiberboard or wood. They come in all different sizes, and you can put any LED light inside to light them up. The leftover scraps of material get cut into fun shapes, covered with glitter, and turned into jewelry so there’s less waste!

What fandoms do you create art for?

Star Wars, Doctor Who, The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, The Walking Dead, comic book superheroes… you name it, and I can make it! I also do lots of custom orders, so I can make something for whatever fandom you’re into.

What’s been your most exciting moment of your fan artist career?

A celebrity bought one of my light boxes. I’m not going to say who it was, and I don’t know if it was for themselves or for a gift, but it was pretty cool to know that a famous person with tons of options made the choice to purchase my art!

What project are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on custom light boxes that will be centerpieces for a geek-themed wedding. I love making someone’s wedding day super special by creating something really customized and personal!

What’s your favorite piece of art that you’ve ever created?

I make a sort of steampunk light box where each side is totally covered with gears of all different sizes. The gears are all laser-cut, and then I paint them all different metallic colors and glue them in randomly, so every box is unique!
