‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Renewed by AMC For A Third Season!

Fear the Walking Dead AMC

Whether you enjoy watching Fear the Walking Dead or not, the zombie-apocalypse show is here to stay for another year because AMC has renewed it for a third season.

According to TVLine, AMC has renewed Fear the Walking Dead for a 16-episode third season that will debut in 2017. Season two returned this year with ‘Monster’ on the 10th of April. It hasn’t been a week since the premiere of the second season and the network has already ordered a renewal. AMC must really like The Walking Dead spin-off.

‘Monster’ garnered 8.8 million viewers in live+3 ratings. The numbers do look impressive, but keep in mind that the first season debuted to 10.13 million in live+SD ratings. In contrast, the live+SD ratings for ‘Monster’ were only 6.67 million, which were lower than the 6.86 million garnered by the season one finale.

A second season premiere episode not being able to match the previous season’s finale numbers isn’t a good indicator as far as I know. To me it feels like the consecutive ratings for season two are going to keep dropping on a weekly basis.

I tried to like Fear the Walking Dead, I really did. But not a single character was able to make me invest in them. However, I’m still keeping my eye on the show in hopes that it might get better with time. I mean, making Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) come out as queer might help change things a bit, but I’m not sure if the show will go that route.

“What Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman have invented in Fear The Walking Dead is to be applauded. Watching Los Angeles crumble through the eyes of our characters and seeing each make decisions and try to figure out the rules of their new world – it’s fresh, eerie and compelling and we’re all in for the ride,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC Studios.

The premise of showing the world break down during the initial period of the zombie outbreak sounded amazing when Fear the Walking Dead was first announced, but for me the show hasn’t been able to deliver yet.
