First Look at The Dragon Prince Season 5

Fans of the Netflix original animated series The Dragon Prince got a first look at season 5 when the official site dropped a dozen new screenshots from the upcoming season.

The images give us a glimpse of pretty much all of the main characters (except Aaravos), and some teasing hints as to what we can expect when the series returns this summer in “Book 5: Ocean”. For starters, it looks like season 5 will be a return to adventuring, with a side of research binge. It’s not like Ezran is a king or anything, and needs to do things like rule his country. Or even, you know, be present in it.

I’m also not seeing much ocean? There is an image of Ezran and Callum on what looks to be a boat, which makes sense given the teaser poster that was released in March. And the shot of Rayla and Callum could potentially be underwater, likely in some sort of cave. The Dragon Prince is set on a Pangea-like supercontinent, but the map shows other lands that they could potentially journey to. (Some type of water Elves, please!)

A couple of the images indicate that we could be learning more about what happened to Runaan this season. There is a shot of Rayla in what looks to be Katolis, perhaps in Viren’s dungeon workroom, with what is presumably Runaan’s coin. The picture of Rayla and Callum possibly arguing could have something to do with the fact that Callums knows that Rayla’s parents aren’t actually dead, but have also been imprisoned in coins, and he has not yet shared this information with Rayla. Also, it looks as though Rayla is carrying Runaan’s weapon.

One image shows Amaya holding a sword that is most likely a gift from Janai. A wedding gift, perhaps? I’m waffling on whether or not they’d want to get married as soon as possible, just in case, or if they would want to wait until the danger has passed. At any rate, the sword looks like a Sunfire Elf weapon, and could potentially have some magical abilities. I’m looking forward to seeing Amaya join up with Callum and the others. She’s been off on her own for too long.

Speaking of the Sunfire Elves, the library in the photo of Callum and Kazi has a sun on the floor, so it stands to reason that’s the library in Lux Aurea (researching Aaravos is my guess). The photo of Callum, Rayla, and Amaya looks to be in the same place – you can see books on the floor. It makes me wonder if Karim and his followers launch an attack on the library.

Viren’s not looking so hot. After all, at this point, he has less than 30 days to live, so his body is likely breaking down. There is an image of him in what could potentially be a fever dream, or perhaps just a regular old nightmare.

What are your the about the images? What are you hoping to see in season 5?

The Dragon Prince Season 5 will premiere this July. A specific date has not been given, but knowing my luck it will be while I’m at San Diego Comic-Con, because isn’t that always the way.
