First The Magnificent Seven Trailer Reveals Diverse Cast & More

First "The Magnificent Seven" Trailer

I grew up watching the late-90s Magnificent Seven TV show with my family, so between that and my love for Chris Pratt, so far I can’t see anything to not love about the first The Magnificent Seven trailer.

Both this 2016 film version and the 90s show are of course based on the 1960 Steve McQueen/Yul Brynner movie of the same name. Funny enough, that original The Magnificent Seven was based on Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, which was very likely influenced by earlier Westerns!

But I digress. As famed as Steve McQueen and Yul Brynner are, and as much as I enjoyed the likes of Ron Perlman and Laurie Holden in the TV show, I can’t imagine not being excited about the diverse cast revealed in the first The Magnificent Seven trailer. Denzel Washington plays the man who brings the ragtag group together – in this version, he’s called Sam Chisolm, though IMDB notes that in other versions this character was known as Chris Larabee (originally played by Yul Brynner). Meanwhile, Byung-hun Lee will portray “Billy Rocks”, a new name for James Coburn’s character Britt from the 1960 film, and Manel Garcia-Rulfo is playing “Vasquez”, though at the moment there aren’t any details available about this character.

As for the first The Magnificent Seven trailer itself, it seems to promise a pretty action-packed, slightly ‘modernized’ Western…not something the genre is generally known for, but I for one believe it can be done and done right. And with other names like Chris Pratt and even Ethan Hawke and Vincent D’Onofrio involved as well, I have very high hopes.

  1. I loved the original movie, so I’m excited about this one! Also, I approve mightily of using “House of the Rising Sun” in the trailer.
