The First Wives Club season one will be debuting on BET+ come September 19, 2019. It’s a reboot of the original and is set in modern times.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to watch The First Wives Club as soon as it premieres, but I still wanted to let you all know about it.

The upcoming streaming series is an adaptation of the 1996 film. The story is about three friends who decide to restart their lives after ending bad marriages.

Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton starred in the original film. The reboot stars Ryan Michelle Bathe, Jill Scott, and Michelle Buteau. Also, the streaming series will have mature content.

Take note, the series’ showrunner Tracy Oliver was co-writer of the WoC-led blockbuster Girls Trip, so you know you need to be ready for a crazy ride.

As for the main characters, we have:

  • Ari Montgomery: She’s described as the level-headed, ambitious intellectual of the group.
  • Hazel Rachelle: She’s the talented and insecure celebrity. In the show, you’ll see her as an R&B diva.
  • Bree Washington: An orthopedic surgeon, she’s described as being blunt, bawdy, and the jokester.

Furthermore, Ari has a queer daughter named Versace.

The trailer is below! Do watch it to get a sense of the tone and characters. As far as my opinion goes, I think The First Wives Club is going to be a series I’ll enjoy binge-watching. The first season will have nine episodes.

And yes, it does seem the upcoming series is the confirmed reiteration of the reboot we mentioned back in 2016.

You can visit the official website to learn more about the BET+ streaming service. The service will be available on September 19, 2019, and you’ll be able to watch The First Wives Club season one the same day.

Are you excited about the new series? Were you a fan of the original? Let us know.
