Fugou Keiji Balance: Unlimited 1×5 Review: If Money be not thy Servant, it will be thy Master

This week’s episode of Fugou Keiji Balance: Unlimited continues its trend of having absurdly long episode titles with ‘If Money be not thy Servant, it will be thy Master.’

Yeah so I’ll be calling this ‘If Money.’  Or even just ‘episode 5.’  For real, why are the episode titles so darn long?  And longer every week?  By the time we get to the end of the season it’ll be a full paragraph long.  My blog formatting is crying out in pain already.

This episode was largely a case-heavy story that didn’t have nearly as much character development as the last four episodes.  But that’s okay.  They can’t all be perfectly crafted to my specific character-focused preference.  At the very least we got some excellent fanservice with Daisuke in a bow tie and Haru busting in to dramatically save the day (and then getting promptly shoved aside).  So all in all, I still loved the episode.

We’re also getting more glimpses of the ongoing plot, which seems to hint that something in the Kambe company is being kept from Daisuke.  There’s something dark lurking in his family’s enterprise that even he is being shielded from.  Daisuke confirms that he has no plans to take over the company, but it still seems to take him by surprise that he’s blocked from accessing certain information.

Honestly though, the intense action sequence as the bomb countdown clock is in its final minute was the highlight of ‘If Money.’  Perhaps I feel this way because it was the only real Haru/Daisuke scene worth note, but maybe it’s all the Daiskue-undressing-himself fanservice.  Either way, I’m pretty sure my enjoyment of this scene isn’t exactly pure and I should feel guilty about it, but I don’t.

I look forward to next week’s episode and am interested to see how the Kambe company plot works out.
