‘Game of Thrones’ at SDCC? What will they bring?

According to Deadline, you may get to see Game of Thrones at SDCC 2019.  What day the panel will be and who all will be there is a bit less certain.

If you want to see Game of Thrones at SDCC, you’ll need to learn how to conquer the infamous Hall H line.  Which day you’ll need to prep for isn’t clear yet.  My guess is Friday based on historical precedent, but sometimes things get changed up so this isn’t at all certain.

Deadline seems to have some info, but a lot seems to be questionable this early in the game.  Their article has the following tidbits:

Barring an unforeseen new conquest of King’s Landing, Game of Thrones looks certain to be returning to Comic-Con’s Hall H next month for a triumphant celebration of the Emmy-winning series’ record-breaking run.

As talks between HBO and confab organizers are in the final stages, exactly which past and present members of the sprawling ensemble (…) will be taking the stage in front of the thousands in the largest room in the San Diego Convention Center is TBD, I hear.

However, it does seem likely that Harington may be there (…)

The SDCC presence of executive producers and showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss does not seem likely, but George R.R. Martin , on whose books GoT was based, is anticipated to appear in one form or another.

It’s interesting to note that one of the three current US based Game of Thrones conventions, Con of Thrones, will have several of the guests occupied during the weekend ahead of SDCC.  Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Hannah Murray (Gilly), and Miltos Yurolemou (Syrio) are all scheduled to appear at the other con.  It’s not impossible for actors to do multiple cons back to back.  Many make a living doing just that.  But it could have an impact anyway as SDCC itself is incredibly draining to pretty much everyone from guests, to vendors, to attendees.

We’ll see what happens and who appears as news solidifies closer to con.  The official schedule will be released two weeks before each day of the convention, but many studios release official information prior to that on their own.  We can usually begin piecing together a decent schedule long before that two week mark, though it is “subject to change” right up until SDCC releases it themselves.

Honestly, the content I want to see from Game of Thrones at SDCC 2019 is less about the show we had, and more about the shows that have yet to come.  It’s not that I don’t adore the cast and would jump at the chance to see them in person, but I’m also ready to see more details about all these mysterious Game of Thrones prequels we have floating around.  Information on that, too, is vague.  I’m ready to hop back on the speculation train and dive into this deep mythos that George RR Martin has crafted for us.  I want to look forward, not backwards.  But we’ll see how this shakes out, I guess.
