Game of Thrones Reveals Jon Snow’s Fate in ‘Home’

Jon Snow death scene game of thrones

This week’s episode of Game of Thrones finally revealed the fate of one of the main characters, Jon Snow. And while you might not have liked what you saw, one can’t deny that some fans have been speculating such an occurrence for a long time.

Do not read any further unless you want to be spoiled regarding the events that took place in ‘Home’ this week.

Jon Snow’s death occurred during last season’s finale, and since then the cast and crew involved in the show have insisted that the character is certainly dead. However, since the premiere of season 6, it was clear that it wasn’t the last we’ve seen of Jon Snow. The fact that Sir Davos went to the Red Woman for help only strengthened the fact that she was going to use some sort of magic.

Near the end of ‘Home’ she performed the ritual, and while it didn’t work immediately, it certainly did in the last few seconds. Jon Snow is alive, and while we don’t know what kind of change he has gone through (if any), it is safe to assume that he’ll continue being in charge of the Wall.

Bringing Jon back from the dead also served as huge turning points for two characters.

“Davos has no love lost for Melisandre,” said executive producer D.B. Weiss during HBO’s post-show. “But he’s seen what she’s capable of. He’s seen her do many impossible things. He’s not a big fan of her god. He’s not a big fan of her program. There’s certainly nothing to lose at this point. If it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work.” (via Variety).

“For Melisandre, she comes into it with great doubts,” said David Benioff, the executive producer. “She is someone who was a true believer, who was an absolute devotee of the Lord of Light, and the events of the last many episodes have shaken that faith. But she still believes in him. She just doesn’t know if he believes in her. And so she comes to Jon Snow’s body with the tiniest hope that maybe if she says the right words, if she says them with enough belief, with enough passion, the Lord will listen to her.” (via Variety).

Kit Harington who plays Jon Snow also issued an apology to fans for lying about his character’s fate.

  1. I’m happy he’s back! I think his story felt very incomplete especially if the popular theory who his parentage is comes true. Interestingly, since Jon technically died, would he still be bound to serve the Wall? The oath says you’re free until your death, and Jon *did* die. I do think Jon may voluntarily continue to serve however since he is needed there.

    1. A lot of people theorize that this means he’s free from his oath and can rule the North or even (if L+R=J is true) rule the Seven Kingdoms.
