Mattel is Giving the World the Company’s First Gender-Neutral Dolls!

Mattel has shared the first-look for the company’s gender-neutral dolls. They have been designed to look like 7-year-old kids with no distinctive masculine or feminine features.

While this might come across as Mattel trying to do everything possible to remain successful, the company, in my opinion, does deserve points for bringing more variety to the doll market. The new gender-neutral dolls are part of Mattel’s ‘Creative World’ series.

Each doll has been designed to be highly customizable. You can dress them up in any manner you want by selecting from a wide range of hair options, clothes, accessories, etc.

The marketing slogan is, “A doll line designed to keep labels out and invite everyone in.”

I mean, I can understand the appeal of these dolls, but I don’t like how they look like very small children. I guess kids out there wanted more friends for Barbie’s little sisters?

I think Mattel should go ahead and try introducing actual gender-neutral dolls in the grownup Barbie line. But anyway, I’m clearly not the primary target audience for this new offering. So, let’s see how they do profit-wise.

I do like the concept behind these new dolls and how they do bring limitless potential as far as creativity during playtime is concerned.

There were a couple of gender-creative kids who told us that they dreaded Christmas Day because they knew whatever they got under the Christmas tree, it wasn’t made for them,” Monica Dreger, head of consumer insights at Mattel, told Time. “This is the first doll that you can find under the tree and see is for them because it can be for anyone.”

Each doll will cost you $29.99. At least, they have a good degree of articulation to justify such a price point. So, yay!

Six dolls are available. You’ll be able to get them from online retailers such as Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

Of course, there are some people online who are very angry about Mattel brainwashing their kids and destroying traditional society and gender rules.

Oh well, keep crying.

What do you think of these gender-neutral dolls from Mattel? Let us know.
