Goku Fans Get New “Dragon Ball Super: Beerus” Anime This October (But Not Really)

Fans of the long-running Dragon Ball IP have a new anime series to look forward to when Dragon Ball Super: Beerus debuts on October 11, 2026. However, as I stated in the title, it’s not really a “new” series due to it being more of an enhanced retelling of the Dragon Ball Super anime, which premiered in July of 2015.

Don’t get me wrong, while I might not be the biggest Dragon Ball Super fan out there, I did remember enjoying the original Dragon Ball Super anime as well as the Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’ animated movies. However, I’m the type of fan who enjoys consuming fresh content rather than revisiting the past and retellings with enhanced or improved (however you might want to put it) animation and narratives. What’s done is done. Move on while doing better. Especially because there’s a lot of Dragon Ball Super manga content that hasn’t been animated yet.

That’s why I’m currently enjoying the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime because that particular series is adapting the events from the manga (which the OG Bleach anime couldn’t get to) while also expanding on what occurred in the manga in surprising ways. I would have liked for the Dragon Ball Super anime series to follow something similar, because again, there’s so much manga content that hasn’t been adapted in anime form.

But oh well. I have to face reality, and that particular reality is that TPTB behind the Dragon Ball IP have decided to revisit the past and serve the fandom similar content, but this time with a fancy filter put on it. Wow! (eyeroll)

Okay, to be fair, the project is said to feature new cuts and revisions, re-rendering of footage, newly recorded dubbing, and added score and sound effects to offer a kind of reconstruction of the story to honor Akira Toriyama’s original idea, but still, come on, was it really necessary? Wouldn’t you, as a Dragon Ball Super fan, also enjoy fresh content better?

Anyway, sticking to the decades-old source material, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will take place about a handful of years after Goku and his gang’s battle with Majin Buu. But peace doesn’t really exist in the Dragon Ball world, with the God of Destruction, Lord Beerus, deciding to wake up and having an interest in Goku.

The promotional trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus has numerous scenes of Beerus being all sinister, Goku doing his best, and Frieza making a return. The fan-favorite character Hit is also in the trailer. So, we will be getting the tournament arc involving Champa.

Certain fans have already taken to social media to post images and footage comparing the 2015 anime series (which ran for 131 episodes, concluding in March 2018) to this one.

There’s definitely a difference in quality, down to how certain shots are framed. But still, I will stand by my initial stance of wanting actual fresh content in the Dragon Ball Super IP.

The opening theme is “ONOGAMI” by Megaera Zero. The ending theme is “Kan Peki No Peki ” by VK Blanka.

Take note that the first episode of the upcoming anime will screen in advance on October 8, 2026, at the Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Special Panel at New York Comic Con.
