Get Ready for Granblue Fantasy: The Animation Season 2

Granblue Fantasy season 2

I knew that once I got into anime, it was just going to be a slippery slope into full-blown obsession, which is probably why I waited so long to give it a try. But now I use my giant list of voice actors to find new series to check out, which is how I stumbled across the charming Granblue Fantasy: The Animation. (Yuki Ono, aka Kagami Taiga, voices the main character.) Granblue Fantasy Season 2 premieres next Friday, and I can’t wait!

Granblue Fantasy Season 2 was something I learned about by accident about a month or so ago, but when I learned that it was coming back for a second season, it just about made my day! The first season ended, not really with a cliffhanger, but in such an open-ended fashion that I knew there had to be more coming; it was just a question of when.

For those who may be unfamiliar, Granblue Fantasy: The Animation is the anime adaptation of the RPG mobile game series of the same name by Cygames, which follows the story of Gran, who rescues a girl named Lyria and her bodyguard Katalina after they escape from an Erste Empire airship. Gran, Lyria, and Katalina – along with their newly acquired pilot Rackam – seek to fly to Estalucia to flee the Empire and seek information about Gran’s long-absent father.

Granblue Fantasy: The Animation will not win awards for being the best ever. It’s not particularly deep or even that amazing, but it’s cute and fun and has perhaps the best OP and ED I have ever heard in my entire life. (No, seriously. I have both tracks on my iPod and I put them on repeat whenever they come on. They are fantastic and just make me happy.)

The above key visual was released today, along with the artist for the ending theme. The artist is adieu, which is actress Moka Kamishiraishi’s music project, and the name of the song will be “Blue”. It was announced earlier this month that Seven Billion Dots will perform the opening theme, “Stay with Me”, which can be heard in the new PV that was released.

Season 2 will contain 14 episodes and premieres October 4. It will stream on Crunchyroll. Season 1 is currently available on Crunchyroll as well as Amazon Prime Video. It’s only 12 episodes (plus one bonus episode featuring Djeeta, the female version of the game’s MC), so it won’t take you long to binge!

It was also announced earlier this year that a manga series would be published from Vertical and Kodansha starting this fall. I’m not sure if it will follow the anime, or if it will be its own thing.
