Sabrina Carpenter Issues So-Called Apology For Boyfriend Griffin Gluck’s Racist & Transphobic Behavior

If you have been looking forward to watching Netflix’s new series Locke & Key, you might want to rethink offering your support. Turns out, one of the main leads (actor Griffin Gluck) has been acting quite racist and transphobic online. While he is yet to address his actions, his girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter has issued a statement.

Whether you are a fan of social media or not, I’m glad that it is a great place to find receipts of problematic behavior exhibited by a number of celebrities. Recently, I wrote about the racist content singer Camila Cabello showed on her Tumblr account. And now, we have another young performer doing the same (some would argue, his online past is worse).

So, according to certain people, 19-year-old actor Griffin Gluck is a racist, transphobic, sexist (and the list goes on) person. Now, I can kind of understand letting some things slide when people are in their early teens. However, some of the problematic stuff from Gluck isn’t too old.

Of course, I won’t be showing all of the content. It’s just too much and I rather not display it here.

There’s just a whole lot, which some are defending as dark humor (eye roll).

As of writing this, Gluck is yet to address the situation. What’s interesting is that his girlfriend (singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter) has issued a statement. It made sense for her to say something because her fans were wondering why she would continue being in a romantic relationship with such a man.

Here’s what she wrote!

Now, I don’t know about you, but her so-called statement came across as lip-service to me. She didn’t mention the reason people were complaining about Gluck to her. She also seemed to be blaming other people for blowing the entire thing out of proportion.

And yes, her line about allowing others to grow, while logical, can’t be applied to this situation because again, Gluck is yet to respond. How can someone grow without realizing their mistakes?

Also, how can Carpenter say she’s all about inclusivity while deliberately being in a romantic relationship with a man who is (apparantly) against all such things? Like, make it make sense, please.

I’m tired of certain people who preach about love and acceptance while supporting their racist and homophobic boyfriends (or others). As far as I’m concerned, if anyone is in a relationship with such a problematic person, that individual doesn’t really stand for inclusivity and acceptance all that much.

Carpenter’s statement is useless. It is, as far as I can tell, also filled with some lies. Saying she didn’t know Gluck during the time he exhibited such behavior online doesn’t hold because again, she was with him during that time.

YouTuber Angelika Oles shared a good take on this matter at the 8:23 mark. Do listen to what she said.

Now, an article did mention that some of the allegations against Gluck are false. And you know what? Some of the content could be fake. But having Carpenter share such a statement does make it very obvious that a part of Gluck’s online presence has been problematic. And again, Gluck hasn’t come out to address any of this.

Anyway, why am I letting you all know?

Well, I just wanted to bring the current situation with Griffin Gluck to your attention because, as I already mentioned, Gluck is one of the leads in Netflix’s upcoming Locke & Key series. It is scheduled to debut on February 7, 2020.

So, do with this information what you want, especially if you are someone looking forward to supporting the new show.

  1. Never heard of him before now, but that’s some disgusting behavior, and THAT’S not a real apology from his girlfriend.

Also, are y’all aware that there are FOX News ads and “DEMAND ADAM SCHIFF RESIGN” ads throughout the article?

    1. Ads are based on your own viewing history. So if you’ve been reading a lot about impeachment, that’s what’s going to be advertised to you. Right now I’m getting a lot of ads for yaoi personally because I’m neck deep in Mo Dao Zu Shi and webcomics. So those are my targeted ads.

      1. Only political stuff I’ve been seeing is on Twitter and Facebook, soooooooo maybe that? Otherwise I’ve been trying to avoid impeachment articles. There was NPR on the radio while I was with my mom…lol ALL THE APPS ARE LISTENING TO US NOW! Even the web browsers!

  2. It wasn’t an apology, because she didn’t do anything, you all only know how to blame them, but none know the truth behind the screen, put yourself in the shoes of others, please, the attitudes of Griffin n were right, I, as a lesbian girl, was really upset, but people change, they grow up, Sabrina even said that she doesn’t support these attitudes, you only showed what was good for you, it’s all you know how to do, point fingers without knowing the truth, the griffin may have changed, if you don’t believe that people change, honestly, they shouldn’t exist, and by the way, we don’t know when the relationship started, so you can’t come here and say that she knew from the beginning, being You don’t even know when the beginning was. n take what I said badly, but you only know how to judge (if I have any errors in my text, I’m sorry, I’m not very good at English, I’m from Brazil)

    1. That’s the point, isn’t it? How can people ‘change’ without accepting what they did wrong? If Griffin has/had changed he should have come forward with a statement about it. Making Sabrina share on is just not a good look, regardless of their relationship beginning while he continued being like this on Instagram or after he had stopped. Right now, Sabrina is coming across as a number of women (around the world) who continue standing up for their very problematic husbands/boyfriends/partners/relatives.

  3. I think it’s kinda of irrelevant in terms of not watching this particular show in regards to him being a key character. Why should we not watch it simply because he’s in it? There are other actors and actresses who I am sure would appreciate the views and the feedback. We shouldn’t condemn the entire show simply because he plays a part in it. That wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the cast who worked really hard on it and created something they’re proud of. Regardless of him being present in the cast we should still show our support for the rest of the cast. That’s just my opinion though. Agree to disagree if you must.

    1. Finally, someone who gets me! Just because he’s a shitty sexist, racist person, (which may not be 100 percent true anyway) doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t like or appreciate the show. For all we know, his character may be very likeable!

  4. ….they’re memes. Are you serious? You’re going to vilify the behavior of a teenager based on memes that he’s either liked or posted?

  5. The statement about not watching the show is utter bullshit. Locke and key is an amazing show guys! And he only becomes a key character near the end of the show. Dont condemn the show and the effort the other actors and producers put into it, that could cause a cancellation for lack of views and for what? Becuase of one shitty person? That’s honestly disgusting of you think that’s OK
