“Grotesqqque” An Original Anime Film Gets October USA Release!

Straight outta Japan Society comes word about a new movie: The premiere of Atsushi Nishigori’s original anime film Grotesqqque (aka Grotesque) on October 8 in New York City. Cloverworks and Aniplex of America worked together to create the anime film.

Director Atsushi Nishigori will have a pre-screening introduction before the upcoming premiere event. Atsushi Nishigori’s previous works include DARLING in the FRANXX, character design for Gurren Lagann and IDOLM@STER. He has worked on other series too. CloverWorks is known for animation production for titles like Spy x Family.

Grotesqqque is a collection of three short films. Over thirty musical artists contributed to the film. The three short films in this anthology are:

“A(E)LIEN – A slapstick comedy starring a full-throttle alien girl!

YOROSHIKU★ Girl – A frenzied battle royale fought over the crown of “Queen.” Tonight, the girls race through the endless night.

NOCTURNE: NUIT GROTESQUE – In a world where humanity has already perished, a pureblood vampire named Ayame travels in a wagon alongside three girls who survived by becoming “infected” through her blood.“

Tickets cost $35 for non-Japan Society members and $30 for members. The film starts at 7 PM EST at the in-person event.

Complementing the film is an original soundtrack to be released on November 6, 2026.

I look forward to a wider release for Grosteqqque. Each short in the anthology has a distinct personality and theme – something light, something to get the adrenaline going, and something to get the blood flowing.

A(E)LIEN is for laughs and seems a bit out there (no pun intended). In an era where Earth interacts with other residents of space, Ellie, an alien girl, comes to Earth to foster positive relations. She adores Earth and hopes to make new friends. And then, evil aliens appear on Earth.

YOROSHIKU★ Girl_ is all about action. It’s the battle anime people know and love. Some of the greatest anime works involve competition. This entry, however, blends a pop-music vibe with high-energy eccentricity.

NOCTUNE: NUIT GROTESQUE follows the story of Ayame and her travels with three girls. The three girls survive Earth’s end of days by receiving a bite from Ayame. The quartet travels the abandoned Earth in a van.

Vampires are cool. That’s probably my bias showing since I was born on Halloween. Yet, NOCTURNE: NUIT GROTESQUE is perfectly timed for Halloween. There are vampires and an apocalyptic backdrop. That’s pretty spooky.

Are you excited?
