Haikyuu 10th Anniversary: New One-Shot Releases April 25

Haikyuu final volume

Those of you who have been around for a while know that I’m massively obsessed with Haikyuu!!, the volleyball manga penned by Haruichi Furudate. The series ended in July of 2020 and left me an emotional wreck. Luckily, all of the bonus content for the 10th anniversary is helping to soothe the ache between seasons of the anime. And now it’s been announced that a brand-new one shot will be released on April 25!

Haikyuu!! fans everywhere were rocked in October 2019 when the series, which follows the volleyball adventures of Hinata Shoyo and his Karasuno teammates, suddenly skipped ahead several years in canon. Instead of following Hinata’s next few years of high school, he was now living in Brazil and playing beach volleyball. Another time skip brought us back to Japan, where Hinata and quite a few familiar faces were now professional volleyball players. The match lasted multiple chapters and was Hinata’s first time competing against rival Kageyama Tobio since middle school.

The final chapter was meant to coincide with the 2020 Olympics (which were postponed until 2021 because of reasons) and showcased some of our faves as members of the Japanese national team. It contained one more time skip to bring us to the World Volleyball Championships, which were held in December of 2021. The series ended with rivals Hinata and Kageyama facing off as members of opposing teams once more.

It was announced in this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, which published Haikyuu!! for its entire run, that the new one-shot will be published in next week’s issue. It will be the length of a regular chapter – 19 pages – and include a center color page. This bonus chapter will focus on what Hinata and the others are up to in 2022.

By the way, this one-shot was apparently announced a while ago and I somehow missed it. I am very sorry to be so behind in bringing this news to you.

Shueisha, the company that owns Haikyuu!!, had previously teased ten projects to coincide with the 10th anniversary. Eight of the projects have been revealed so far, and the one-shot is just one of the announcements. I’m sure we’re all hoping that one of the remaining two announcements will be about season 5 of the anime, which as of right now has no release date.
