Heartfelt LGBTQ Dramedy “Give Or Take” Gets February Release!

Breaking Glass Pictures will release the heartfelt LGBTQ dramedy Give or Take in New York at the Quad Cinemas and Los Angeles at the Laemmle Royal come February 11, 2022. The award-winning film will be available on DVD and Digital on February 22, 2022.

From director Paul Riccio, Give or Take stars Dan in Real Life alum and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz alongside Jamie Effros (On), Joanne Tucker (The Report), and Cheri Oteri (Saturday Night Live).

The premise deals with a disillusioned New Yorker, Martin (Jamie Effros), who, having received news that his father has died, goes home to Cape Cod and begins to prepare the house for sale while… wait for it… sharing the house with his father’s temperamental live-in boyfriend!

There’s a lot of baggage involved as far as Martin and his father Kenneth’s relationship’s concerned. Kenneth came out later in life as a gay man after his wife died and was able to find love with a younger man named Ted (Butz).

The film will show Martin and Ted trying to grieve in their own way and figuring out how to interact with each other.

The story kind of reminds me of the manga titled My Brother’s Husband, which showcased relationship dynamics between a queer and straight person remembering a queer loved one.

Led by the heart-wrenching performance of Norbert Leo Butz, Give or Take paints a compelling, moving portrait of a son’s journey to understand and accept the complexities of his father.”

The film had its World Premiere at the Woods Hole Film Festival, where it went on to win the Audience Award for Best Feature. It has played in numerous other festivals including Monmouth Film Festival, where it won Best Narrative Feature, Out on Film Atlanta, winning two awards for Best Ensemble and Best Screenplay, Port Townsend Film Festival where it garnered Best Feature, Out at the Movies where is snagged Best Screenplay and Audience Award for Best Feature, FilmOut San Diego, where Butz took home Best Supporting Actor; and kicked off this year’s Provincetown Film Festival.

Give or Take will have a Special Engagement screening at Cape Cinema on February 9, 2022. It will open in New York at Quad Cinemas and Los Angeles at the Laemmle Royal on February 11, 2022.
 
As for the home release, Give or Take will be available on DVD and Digital platforms come February 22, 2022.

  1. Breaking Glass Pictures make good films. Unfortunately I am far to bitter to enjoy any queer films or content, too much water under the bridge. I won’t ever be able to enjoy anything anymore. I am like that guy in Love! Valour! Compassion! or whatever. Thing will just never be the same.
