Inspired by an April Fool’s joke, Rollacrit has come out with a new, “pun-tastic” adventure that combines tabletop games and drinking, and you can join the fun with the official Heroes of Barcadia Kickstarter launches June 7.

Rollacrit.com, a tabletop lifestyle brand that is the brain-child of former ThinkGeek employees, first announced Heroes of Barcadia back in March. The game is based on a previous fake product that was part of an April Fool’s Day joke, but this game is no prank!

“Designing and play-testing Heroes of Barcadia over the last few years has supplied countless cheerful evenings around the table with friends, along with many pun brainstorming sessions,” said Madison O’Neil, Heroes of Barcadia designer and illustrator. “The goal for me was always to have everybody around the table enjoying themselves, and I think we’ve achieved a game that is equally as fun to win as it is to lose! I can’t wait to get it into people’s hands.”

In Heroes of Barcadia, two to six players take on the roles of Barcadian champions to battle monsters and bosses, collect Power-Ups with mystical abilities, and race to collect the elusive Drink Hoard hidden in the dungeon! There is a special twist to this drinking game: your character’s health is measured by the liquid in your cup. Getting hit by a monster forces you to take a drink, slowly sipping down your health pool until it’s back to square one.

And if you’re not much of a drinker? Well, then feel free to join my game and play with soda and juice. They serve plenty of different kinds of beverages at bars! (When I was in college, I was one of the few people who played Flip Cup with water.)

With the game design and prototype finished, the only thing left to do is launch the crowdfunding campaign, which goes live in two weeks. You can sign up for updates over at HeroesOfBarcadia.com, and if you sign up now, you can get an exclusive in-game power up when you pledge to the Kickstarter.
