High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 3 has cast a bunch of new characters for the fandom to enjoy. HSMTMTS season 3 will have the main cast tackle a high-stakes production of Frozen. I’m very excited about the upcoming season!

After getting a HSMTMTS season 3 confirmation back in September of 2021, production for the latest installment of the Disney+ live-action series has begun in Los Angeles. The third outing has cast five new characters, including familiar faces from past Disney content.

The third season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will feature two series regulars played by Adrian Lyles and Saylor Bell. The Disney Channel alums include Corbin Bleu (High School Musical franchise), Meg Donnelly (Zombies franchise), and Jason Earls (Hannah Montana).

Here’s the information about the new characters:

  • Lyles will play Jen, a mysterious kid at Camp Shallow Lake.
  • Bell is Maddox, described as a bright-eyed, quick-witted “techie” who is all about following the rules.
  • Donnelly will play Val, a confident and funny college student. As a longtime camper, Val’s a camper-turned-counselor-in-training. Val’s ready to choreograph the summer production of Frozen.
  • Earles plays the stone-faced, killjoy camp director named Dewey Wood.
  • Bleu will be appearing in the series as himself.

Due to HSMTMTS taking place in a fictional world where the main cast happens to be fans of the High School Musical movies, I’m looking forward to seeing them getting to interact with Bleu. Fangirling will ensue, and I’m here for it!

As for the third season having the cast tackle Frozen, I think that will make for a fun time because, in my opinion, the second season did a good job of handling Beauty and the Beast even though we didn’t get to watch a whole lot of the final performance.

Also, with Val wanting to choreograph the production of Frozen, I wonder what Carlos and Gina have to say about it. And yes, I’m wondering if the production will stick with Elsa and Anna being played by two girls, or if the sisterly dynamic will be changed to give viewers a sister-and-brother dynamic. Also, what if HSMTMTS leans into Elsa being queer? Hmmm.

Along with using Frozen, the third season will also feature music from Camp Rock and the High School Musical films.

Created and executive produced by Tim Federle, the show debuted back in November of 2019 and has aired a total of 22 episodes. Even though I had issues with the premiere season, the second season won me over and I can’t wait to enjoy the upcoming third offering.

The series, which has a queer-inclusive cast, has delivered well-written queer representation. The second season allowed queer characters and romantic pairing Carlos (Frankie Rodriguez) and Sebastian (Joe Serafini) to kiss onscreen and make history along the way. I’m interested in seeing how Carlos and Sebastian’s relationship will progress in the new episodes.

With the season 2 finale having Gina (Sofia Wylie) begin a new romantic relationship with E.J. (Matt Cornett), those two are another pairing I’m interested in seeing more of.

I do plan on covering HSMTMTS season 3 over at The Geekiary’s YouTube channel. I upload a bunch of reaction and review videos on there. So, consider subscribing!
