“House of the Dragon: The Complete Third Season” Gets 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD Release This December

Fans of the live-action House of the Dragon season 3 can look forward to owning all of the episodes on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD come December 1, 2026.

From Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, House of the Dragon: The Complete Third Season will include all 8 episodes along with bonus content for fans to enjoy. Take note that the 4K UHD physical release also includes a 4K UHD Steelbook edition.

The third chapter of House of the Dragon picked up where the season two finale left off back in August of 2024, with Queen Rhaenyra continuing her mission to take control of the Iron Throne while also facing the numerous threats around her, both from inside and outside King’s Landing.

The cast includes Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, and more.

The third chapter debuted on June 21, 2026, with the season finale airing on August 9, 2026. According to the press release I received, the show has reached more than 17 million global viewers. And yes, it has been renewed for a 4th and final season.

And while that “more than 17 million global viewers” statement sounds nice, I have to say that I haven’t seen as much online hype around the third season compared to the first two installments. And if you take a look at the US viewership numbers via Wikipedia, you can see that season 3 ranked a lot lower when taking averages across the three seasons into consideration.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon premiered to 1.32 million US viewers, while season 3 only managed 0.86 million. So yeah, you can tell that the series has lost quite a bit of traction over the years. Whether it’s due to the long wait time between seasons or certain narrative decisions (or a combination of both) is a whole other discussion. Certain fans might also be siding with Martin over his comments about Ryan Condal when it comes to ignoring the third offering.

Personally, while I watched HotD season 3, I have to say that I didn’t find it as enjoyable as expected. Even though it featured two major battles, something felt off when it came to character interactions and the pacing. At least, the third chapter did cement Queen Rhaenyra’s bisexuality.
