Geekiary News Briefs! “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Resident Evil 7” Modest Debut, and Dark “Power Rangers”!

Marvel Avengers Infinity War

Welcome to today’s Geekiary Briefs! We’ve got exciting news about Avengers: Infinity War, Power Rangers, Resident Evil: Vendetta, and more!

Avengers: Infinity War is going to be a huge MCU crossover. The Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man will be joining the event. There’s an entire Facebook Live video you can enjoy if you’re a fan.

Marvel also released a sweet video just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Coming to Marvel’s mutant side, FX’s Legion debuted to not-so-great ratings. While the show has garnered critical praise it might not be for casual viewers. I’m not sure if I’ll be watching it. My hesitation has more to do with how Dan Stevens looks rather than the show’s premise. I prefer the chubbier version from Downton Abbey.

Resident Evil: Vendetta will open in U.S. theaters sometime in the summer. The CG film will be released in Japan on 27th May 2017. It brings R.E veterans Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Rebecca Chambers together to stop a bioterrorist attack.

Speaking of Resident Evil, the seventh installment in the main game series has shipped 3 million copies worldwide. The horror-survival franchise has sold 76 million copies in total since debuting in 1996. I’ve played R.E 7 and I feel it could’ve been a lot better. It seems other players think the same because the game’s debut has been quite modest. I get that Capcom wanted to increase horror, but first-person shooters aren’t for everyone. (via Gematsu)

Sarah Shahi has been cast as the female lead in Reverie. The show is in its pilot stage and will air on NBC. It is described as a “grounded, dramatic thriller about a former detective specializing in human behavior who is brought in when the launch of an advanced virtual reality program has dangerous and unintended consequences.” Sarah Shahi will play Mara, a college professor who has FBI training in counter-terrorism. The Dolph Lundgren-led film Don’t Kill It will open in select theaters and on demand on 3rd March 2017. The film is directed and edited by Mike Mendez. Dan Berk and Robert Olson wrote it.

Here’s the official synopsis:

An ancient evil is unleashed in a small Mississippi town leaving a trail of death and destruction as it passes from host to host. The only hope of survival lies with a grizzled demon hunter (Dolph Lundgren) who has faced this terror before. Together with a reluctant FBI agent (Kristina Klebe) he has to figure out how to destroy a demon with the ability to possess its killer.

I’m still unable to feel excited about the upcoming Power Rangers reboot. However, there is one reimagining I’m looking forward to. Adi Shankar, Netflix’s Castlevania showrunner, has announced that he’s working on an R-rated animated reboot of the 90’s series. You might remember him from the short film he created, starring Katee Sackhoff. (via Polygon)
