Introducing Electric City Comic Con!

Later this summer – on Saturday, August 8th from 1 PM to 5 PM, to be exact – the Anderson, South Carolina, library is holding its first ever “Comic Con”. Dubbed Electric City Comic Con (based on Anderson’s city nickname), the organizers are referring to it as “EC3”, and they hope it will be the first of many years for this little convention!

EC3 is taking place at the Anderson County Library (300 N. McDuffie Street, Anderson SC, 29621), and it will be taking over almost the entire library – upstairs, downstairs, and outside. According to Sarah Holmes, who is on the EC3 planning committee, this event was organized to “attract the ’emerging adult’ audience into the library – young professionals who may not have kids yet, and don’t have an awareness of the library as a cultural and service touchpoint. The idea is if we get them in the doors once and make them aware that we do ‘cool’ things, we’ll be…in their minds when they need stuff, are interested in other programming, or if/when they do have kids.” However, EC3 did evolve in the planning, and Sarah noted that they’ve long since decided they “want the Con to have something for all ages: children, tweens, teens, young adults, and families.”

Guests to the con include David Weber, author of the Honor Harrington series, and YA writers Megan Shepherd and Delilah S. Dawson. Yours truly will be there too, as I’m moderating a panel and manning a table to promote The Geekiary, Ice & Fire Con, and my debut novel The Way of Reckoning (which, coincidentally, was published six months ago today). There will also be a game and craft area for kids in the Children’s Department and Children’s Garden, so there’s literally something for everyone!

So if you’re in the area, or can make it to the area on August 8th, you should come check out EC3. I hope to see you there!
