Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer for the upcoming queer-led thriller movie by M. Night Shyamalan titled Knock at the Cabin. Based on the 2018 novel by Paul G. Tremblay, Knock at the Cabin is currently scheduled for a February 3, 2023, theatrical release.

Starring out queer actors Ben Aldridge and Jonathan Groff, along with Dave Bautista and Rupert Grint, the Knock at the Cabin trailer shows two dads deciding to spend time at a remote cabin with their young girl Wen (played by newcomer Kristen Cui). And you already know that something bad is going to happen.

Bautista’s character Leonard appears onscreen to talk to Wen and what follows is the dads trying to make sense of Leonard showing up at the cabin with three armed strangers. I do like the tension in the trailer as the family tries to protect themselves against the uninvited guests. After failing to do so, Leonard talks about how this particular queer family has been tasked with making an unthinkable choice to prevent the end of the world.

Here’s the trailer!

I have a feeling that Wen taking notes about the insects around her will play some kind of role in the narrative. Let’s see.

Also, in my opinion, Bautista is definitely the highlight. He knows what kind of movie he’s in. And while I do like Aldridge (go watch his queer-led murder mystery series The Long Call) and Jonathan Groff, there was something off about their acting during certain scenes. But then again, it could be because of how the trailer was cut? Hmm.

Anyway, I’m excited to see how Knock at the Cabin will be received by critics and the general audience. Yes to there being a thriller movie that features queer parents.

Here’s my reaction to the trailer!

Do you plan to watch Knock at the Cabin? Have you read the book it’s based on?
