“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” 1×132 Review – ‘Jiraiya’s Assignment’

Ever since the current time-traveling arc was announced, fans have been hoping to see Boruto share an emotional scene with Neji. I’m glad to share that ‘Jiraiya’s Assignment’ gave us such a moment and more.

I think at this point I have to stop worrying about how time-traveling works in the Boruto world. Even though Sasuke made sure to warn Boruto to keep a certain distance from others as to not potentially impact the future, both of them didn’t stick to the initial plan. After Urashiki was able to kidnap Naruto in the previous episode, Jiraiya decided to train Boruto. I mean, come on! That has to change the timeline in some way, right?

Maybe the chakra synchronization training that Naruto and Boruto are currently going through is the reason Naruto was able to easily share his chakra with his son in Boruto: Naruto the Movie?

Furthermore, with Jiraiya being suspicious of Sasuke, maybe their confrontation in the upcoming episode is the reason Jiraiya was fully determined to train Naruto?

Look at me trying to make sense of the time-traveling shenanigans that ‘Jiraiya’s Assignment’ featured.

There’s also the fact that Sakura found the note Salad wrote for Sasuke.

Yeah, I need to stop.

So, moving all of that stuff to the side, I really liked Boruto sharing his concerns with Neji. Boruto’s uncle had to face an angry Naruto during the Chunin exams. So, it made sense for Neji to offer some advice to Boruto about who Naruto is as a person (without realizing he’s talking to his nephew).

I think fans will appreciate the interaction the two had. I had been waiting for more screentime showing Boruto and Neji, and I wasn’t disappointed.

I’m interested in seeing how the writers plan on concluding the current arc. Will everyone in the past forget they met the time-displaced Boruto and Sasuke? Will Boruto and Sasuke remember their trip to the past?

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if our heroes are able to beat Urashiki while stuck in the past. I was hoping for an epic battle in Boruto’s present timeline (the future), but I’m not against our little ninja defeating a powerful opponent in the past.

What did you think of ‘Jiraiya’s Assignment’? Let us know.
