Kevin Feige has revealed that we’ll be getting Phase Five information ‘in the coming months.’ Which tells us nothing about their presence at SDCC, but almost guarantees a huge rollout of announcements at D23.

The Feige quote comes from an interview with Gamesradar.  It seems to hint that we’re heading towards a Secret Wars saga.  The most recent tease for this comes in the form of a mysterious end credits scene from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.  The concept of ‘incursions’ has been introduced, as well as a new character played by Charlize Theron.  In fact, most of Multiverse of Madness seemed to be preparing audiences for this upcoming arc.

“As we’re nearing the end of Phase 4, I think people will start to see where this next saga is going… I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going. But we’ll be a little more direct about that in the coming months, to set a plan, so audiences who want to see the bigger picture can see a tiny, tiny, tiny bit more of the roadmap.”

Marvel Studios has skipped San Diego Comic-Con in order to make big reveals at their D23 convention, but they’ve also doubled up before.  Most recently, they had both Hall H panels and major reveals at D23 in both 2017 and 2019.  It’s not a reliable way to predict their presence at the con.  Still, most people are viewing this as another big hint that they’ll be skipping this year.  I’m very much hoping this assumption is wrong.  They won’t skip D23, though, since that’s their in-house convention.

Phase Four has been a major shift in the MCU.  The start of it was delayed by the pandemic, which pushed many films back much further than intended.  However, this is also the first phase with Disney+ content, which has greatly expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Some of this content, such as Moon Knight, has very little references to the main story at all.  For me, this has been absolutely delightful.  There’s almost a constant stream of new content across numerous genres.  There’s something for everyone now.

The next two projects slated for Phase Four is Thor: Love and Thunder, opening on July 8th, and She-Hulk begins releasing episodes on August 17th.   Ms. Marvel is currently releasing new episodes every Wednesday on Disney+.
