Killing Eve 2×1 Review: Do You Know How to Dispose of a Body?

Killing Eve is back! One of our favorite sleeper hits is back for its second season, and I could not be more thrilled. While most shows succumb to the familiar sophomore slump in terms of story and style, those who are fans of this show knew that it would not be the case with this cat-and-mouse thriller. “Do You Know How to Dispose of a Body” had everything we loved about season one: a moody soundtrack, character complexity, and of course, murder.

The great thing about “Do You Know How to Dispose of a Body” is that it picked up immediately after the fallout from that jaw-dropping season one finale when Eve stabbed Villanelle. We all knew that those following few moments would be suspenseful, but there was something about Eve getting Villanelle’s literal blood on her hands while leaving the flat that was just a little too much. And in typical Eve fashion, we got see the complexity of her reaction to it all, from positively gorging on gummy candies to shaking alone in the bathtub once she returned home. That range of emotions is one of the things that makes Eve so realistic, and although few of us can actually know what it is like to stab someone, I am sure there is an onslaught of every feeling imaginable.

Luckily, Eve seemed to jump into mostly back to normal pretty quickly. She coped through the emotions by letting a telemarketer sell her on new windows, and reconciled (sort of) with Niko–although that relationship is still pretty rocky. She even had the resilience to meet back up with Carolyn and hold her ground when questioned about her actions while off-the-grid in Paris. (And the wherewithal to admit that Villanelle’s flat is “chic as shit”–as if we would have expected anything different.)

Villanelle had a little bit tougher rebound after the stabbing. Although we got to see her momentarily be the strong assassin and try to tend to her wound on her own with a little help from some street vodka, she ended up in the hospital being treated for a very deep stab wound. During her recovery, she spent time getting to know her teen roommate, Gabriel who was in an

accident that killed his family. I should have known that getting attached to Gabriel was a bad idea on my part, but he and Villanelle had some really great banter and I had high hopes. Unfortunately for Gabriel, he made the mistake of admitting to her that he wanted to die, and just like that, she snapped his neck, but not before stealing and donning his pajamas.

By the end of the episode, Villanelle made her way to Calais, presumably on her way to London and Eve. Things are probably not going to go well for the family that she chose to stow away with, so I will learn my lesson from this week and try not to get too attached (Villanelle doesn’t really have a good track record with treating kids well). It is unclear exactly how long it will take her to get to London, but probably not long and our favorite game can continue.

Overall, “Do You Know How to Dispose of a Body” was an extremely satisfying season opener; I really enjoy it when things pick up right where they left off. Even though Eve and Villanelle are apart again, it is clear that they cannot stop thinking about each other AT ALL. We do have some unanswered questions, however, that will hopefully get addressed soon, like what is the status of Eve’s job, and will Villanelle get a new handler, and well, what is her status with working for The Twelve?

On a related note, it was announced today that Killing Eve was renewed for a third season with BBC America, so this is great news! Even more hours of watching Eve and Villanelle play their game, and hopefully we will get even more great music, fashion, and stylized television in the future.
