It looks like Marvel Comics will allow the newly married couple Wiccan and Hulkling to experience the upcoming King in Black crossover event. From writer Tini Howard and artist Lucian Vecchio, King in Black: Wiccan and Hulkling Issue 1 is scheduled to hit stores in March 2021.

As a fan of Billy and Teddy, I’m glad that Marvel Comics didn’t forget about them after the recent Empyre event, which showcased their marriage. Empyre: Aftermath – Avengers Issue 1 opened the door to something quite interesting (and dangerous) in Hulkling’s future. However, since then I haven’t seen the duo popping up in other books.

Also, with King in Black nearing release this December, and considering Marvel’s track record of conveniently forgetting someone as powerful as Wiccan existed during crossover events, I thought he and Teddy wouldn’t get to appear in King in Black.

Well, turns out they will appear, even if in a limited capacity. It’s better than not getting anything at all, right?

King in Black: Wiccan and Hulkling Issue 1 will show the newlyweds getting to deal with a lot of trouble on their honeymoon. I can’t wait to read this one-shot!

Tini Howard shared, “It’s amazing to see where these characters are now. When YOUNG AVENGERS first came out in 2005, I was a newly-minted Marvel superfan buying every Avengers book I could get my hands on. Wiccan was that new character I immediately imprinted upon – I’ve been a Billy Kaplan superfan since his very first appearance (back when he was still called Asgardian!) – so writing his honeymoon special with Hulkling feels very special indeed.”

Luciano Vecchio added, “I’m blown away by this assignment, talk about bucket list project. It is no secret Wiccan and Hulkling are my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe, and I’m super happy and fulfilled to be working on this adventure picking up after a very important year for them in the Empyre event. I love drawing Billy and Teddy, and also the fact that it ties in with King in Black allows me to explore my dark and creepy side which I really enjoy too. And I get to work with Tini Howard! I’m living a dream honestly, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

The official description for the issue reads:

Wiccan and Hulkling are freshly off the marriage altar and overdue for a proper celebration. So when the Shi’ar invite them for an all-expenses-paid vacation at their glitziest beach resort, you know Wiccan’s already got their bags packed. But they’ll have to hold the champagne — because Knull and his symbiote army are expanding across the galaxy! Tini Howard and Luciano Vecchio give everyone’s favorite Young Avengers a honeymoon to die for!

I enjoyed Howard’s writing style in her Death’s Head miniseries which featured Wiccan and Hulkling. So, I’m looking forward to seeing how Howard will handle the two as a married couple on their honeymoon.

Also, will we ever get to find out if Wiccan’s still a mutant or not?

Anyway, I have my fingers crossed that Marvel Comics decides to give Billy and Teddy a solo-series that focuses on their adventures as the future Demiurge (Billy) and the King of Space (Teddy). I wouldn’t mind a new Young Avengers series either.

With a baby Wiccan set to make an appearance in the WandaVision streaming series, I think Marvel will give him a much-needed boost in other media, too.

Are you excited about this upcoming release?
