Kirby Series Amiibo Pre-Orders Coming to GameStop

Kirby Amiibo

GameStop announced today that pre-orders for the Kirby series Amiibo will go live on Tuesday, April 19, at 2 pm Central time both in stores and online.

The Kirby series Amiibo were first introduced during last month’s Nintendo Direct during the segment on the upcoming 3DS title Kirby: Planet Robobot.

The new Amiibo will include Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Waddle Dee. Three of these characters already have previously released versions in the Smash series. The only new character that will be available in this lineup is Waddle Dee.

The Japanese version of the new Kirby Amiibo comes with a special diorama for the Kirby series to be displayed with. There is no word yet if this will be included in the North American versions.

According to Nintendo’s website, the Kirby series Amiibo can be tapped while playing Kirby: Planet Robobot to give Kirby special copy abilities and unique looks depending on the character. There will also be select Amiibo not from the Kirby series that can be tapped during story mode to give Kirby even more special abilities. A full list of these compatible Amiibo has not been released yet, but it was revealed during the footage seen in the Nintendo Direct that Mario will give the fire ability, Link will give the sword sword ability, and a Smash-series Kirby will unlock an ability called the Smash Bros ability. This seems to underscore the fact that the Kirby series Amiibo will stand on their own and that the Smash series versions of Kirby characters will not unlock the same abilities as the Kirby series.

Kirby: Planet Robobot has already shown a lot of promise with the addition of Kirby’s new robot armor that can also gain copy abilities. It will be exciting to see if copy abilities can be combined between Kirby and the robot armor and if/how the Amiibo will factor into this. If both Kirby and the robot armor can gain copy abilities at the same time, there will be more possibilities than ever before for how Kirby can transform.

The Kirby series is set to arrive in stores on June 10. Will you be pre-ordering any of the Kirby series Amiibo?
