Kuroko’s Basketball Collaborating with the NBA!

Kuroko's Basketball Kagami Chicago Bulls

Yesterday the official website for Kuroko’s Basketball: The Last Game announced that they would be collaborating with the NBA to put out new official merchandise, and I am beyond excited!

The Kuroko’s Basketball film is slated for release in Japan on March 18, 2017, and the manga’s original author Tadatoshi Fujimaki (who is also a supervisor for the film) picked eight NBA teams for this collaboration project. The first character illustration drawn by designer Yoko Kikuchi was released along with yesterday’s announcement, and as pictured above, it featured Taiga Kagami wearing the Chicago Bulls uniform.

A second character design was released today, and this time it was Shintaro Midorima – one of my personal favorites – as none other than a Boston Celtic…which was “my” team back in the day when I followed NBA basketball!

In fact, fans of Kuroko’s Basketball should keep an eye on the official website and/or Twitter, as they will be posting a new illustration each day until we’ve seen all eight.

The merchandise that spawns from this collaboration will be sold at the Seibu Ikebukuro flagship store in Tokyo “and other selected stores”. Hopefully they will release more details soon – and I for one am crossing my fingers that we’ll be able to purchase at least some items online, because I suppose it’s a bit late in the game (pun intended) for me to plan a trip to Tokyo.

They seem to be going with color themes for these characters, so what other teams do you think will be featured? My [educated] guess is that we will get to see all of the Generation of Miracles, which means we still have Kise, Murasakibara, Aomine, Akashi, and of course Kuroko to look forward to…but if eight NBA teams were chosen, that means this list is still one character short. Who do you think it will be? Let us know in the comments!
