“Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition” Manga Coming November 1st

Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition

Announced yesterday, the manga based on the beloved Nintendo game will make its return later this year.

From the press release:

The battle for Hyrule and the Sacred Realm has begun! A young boy named Link must defeat evil on his long, perilous quest to find the spiritual stones that hold the key to the Triforce, and deliver them to Zelda, princess of the land of Hyrule.

VIZ Media, the largest publisher, distributor and licensor of manga and anime in North America, revealed that they will re-release the classic 10-volume manga in a series of 2-in-1 editions, titled Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition. Each issue of Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition contains two volumes of the original manga series, complete with new covers and color artwork by creator Akira Himekawa. Each edition is presented in deluxe format, with a larger printing (5-3/4” x 8-1/4”).

Volume 1 of Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition contains parts 1 and 2 of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It is rated “A” for all ages and will be released November 1st of this year for $17.99(USD). Future issues of Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition will be released bimonthly (such a confusing term, but I assume this means every two months rather than twice a month) for a total of five volumes.

The Legend of Zelda is an unforgettable and tremendously loved property among multiple generations of video game, pop culture and manga fans,” says Beth Kawasaki, Senior Editorial Director for Perfect Square. “We are very excited to bring fans The Legend of Zelda in a comprehensive new way with these collectible omnibus editions.”

I’ll admit I never really got into manga, and I didn’t even know there had been a Legend of Zelda manga in the first place (I am shamed; I shall go stand in the corner), but I may have to pick these up when they come out. Legend of Zelda is one of the only video games I actually play (that doesn’t have LEGO in the title).

  1. I’ve read all the Mangas and liked them, but was always disappointed that they never released Mangas based on “Twilight Princess.”
