Halle Berry is all set to star in Roland Emmerich’s latest world-ending sci-fi offering titled Moonfall. And yes, as the name states, the film is going to be about the moon falling toward Earth.

According to Deadline, Moonfall is about a mysterious force knocking the moon from its orbit and having it make its way to Earth. Due to the collision guaranteed to end our planet, the humans try what they can to prevent such a catastrophe. With only weeks before impact, a ragtag team sets out on a mission to save humanity.

Berry will be playing a NASA astronaut-turned-administrator. Apparently, one of her previous space missions might hold an important clue.

Interestingly, Berry played an astronaut in the TV series Extant, which ran for two seasons from 2014 to 2015.

Along with Berry, the cast also includes Josh Gad (Frozen). Gad’s character has been described as a scientist who discovers that the moon has fallen out of orbit.

The screenplay for Moonfall was co-written by Emmerich, Harald Kloser, and Spenser Cohen. Emmerich, who is an openly out member of the LGBTQ+ community, will also be producing this film under his Centropolis Entertainment banner with Kloser producing through his company, Street Entertainment.

Moonfall has been in development since 2016. Emmerich came back to the project after the release of his film Midway in 2019.

The executive producers for the upcoming film are Dennis Wang, James Wang, J.P. Pettinato, Marco Shepherd, Ute Emmerich, Carsten Lorenz, and Stuart Ford.

Production is slated to begin this fall in Montreal for a 2021 release. However, considering what the world is currently going through, let’s see if the production team can begin working on the planned date.

Lionsgate has acquired the rights for Moonfall. Berry previously worked in the studio’s John Wick 3: Parabellum. A fourth film in the John Wick series had to postpone its release date to 2022. Here’s hoping Berry’s character Sofia makes an appearance.

Other than that, Berry will be making her directorial debut with Bruised (which was supposed to come out this year, but you know, the world is dealing with a pandemic).

Also, and I don’t know what to make of this development, but she will be part of a fantasy/sci-fi series called The Black Child with Chadwick Boseman, Janet Jackson, and more.

Maybe someone was able to create a fake entry in IMDb? There has been no official announcement regarding such a show or cast.

Anyway, feel free to share your thoughts about Moonfall.

  1. I actually have this recurring nightmare where the moon crashes into Earth so I will not be seeing this movie ever.
