Ms. Marvel Wins “Best Series” at Angoulême International Comics Festival

Ms. Marvel title

Ms. Marvel keeps making a mark in the comic book industry. Not only is it one of the best-selling titles, it recently attained prestigious international recognition.

Ms. Marvel Volume 1: No Normal helped Marvel Comics receive the prestigious award of “Best Series” for the first time ever at the Angoulême International Comics Festival held in France. Marvel was also the only American publisher to be recognized this year. The best and the brightest creators from around the world are recognized during this annual festival for their contributions to the comic book industry.

G. Willow Wilson, the writer of the series, thanked her team and felt humbled by the award.

“The whole Ms. Marvel team is honored to accept the Angouleme prize for best series. Working on this book and connecting with readers and fans has been a unique joy for all of us. At a time when it sometimes seems the world is in a state of constant conflict, it is a privilege to work on a series that unites us through adventure, humor and a celebration of our common humanity. Thank you to everyone who believes in Kamala Khan, and thank you to Angouleme.”

The art for Volume 1 was done by Adrian Alphona. His art is one the major reasons the series stands out from the crowd.

Ms. Marvel Volume 3 and 4 also made it into the Top 10 of Young Adult Library Services Association list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens in 2016!

Ms. Marvel tells the story of a Muslim teenager, Kamala Khan, who discovers her Inhuman powers. What follows are wacky adventures as she tries to make sense of who she really is, and saves her hometown from various threats. There’s a great sense of being true to who you are in the series, and it goes to show that even if the protagonist is a Pakistani-American teenaged Muslim girl, fans haven’t stopped rooting for her.
