With the first-ever Netflix Tudum event having premiered this Saturday, there’s a bunch of content I’m looking forward to watching and sharing my opinions about on The Geekiary in the coming months. Here are some of the highlights!

From Stranger Things to The Witcher and Cowboy Bebop, the three-hour-long virtual event had a lot for a variety of fans to get excited about. I will be sharing my thoughts regarding some of the upcoming stuff. Of course, feel free to drop a comment about what got you all excited or even content that made you roll your eyes.

Red Notice

While I was looking forward to watching Red Notice, the recently released clip made me not to. The fight scene in the clip shared below is poorly done, in my opinion. It’s slow and has a lot of cuts. Also, people with long hair don’t untie their locks before getting into hand-to-hand combat. It’s clear that the sex appeal of Gal Gadot’s character is being highlighted, but as far as I can tell, it’s being done in a manner that’s doing her character no favors. The joke about getting turned on by her made me cringe.

Red Notice will be available on Netflix on November 12, 2021.

Bridgerton Season 2

The period-piece romance drama Bridgerton ended up being a huge success for Netflix. It has already been renewed for a third and fourth outing. There’s even a prequel series in the works. Anyway, I didn’t enjoy watching Bridgerton season one. But I think I’ll give the second season a try just to see if the writing team decided to handle the queer representation better.

Bridgerton season two is supposed to debut early next year, from what I could gather.

Money Heist Finale

Talking about well-written queer representation, the final five episodes of Money Heist will debut on December 3, 2021. I’m so excited! I can’t wait to see which of the main characters end up surviving!

Do read my review of the first five episodes of Money Heist Part 5.

Ozark Season 4

The highly enjoyable and award-winning crime-dark comedy series Ozark will be returning for its fourth and final season sometime next year. I’m a fan of Ozark. Even though I’m sad to see it end, I’m here for engaging stories coming to a proper conclusion before things begin to drag.

You can read my review of Ozark season 3 here. It’s one of the most well-constructed shows out there.

Stranger Things Season 4

A sneak peek of Stranger Things season 4 introduced viewers to the creepy and mysterious Creel House. I can’t wait to see Robin and Group Mother Steve getting into life-threatening trouble with the younger cast again! And of course, I’m interested in seeing how Robin’s queer sexuality will be handled considering the time this show’s set in. Let’s see if Will has a similar journey or not.

While a proper release date hasn’t been shared, you can expect to see the mega-popular series return sometime in 2022.

The Sandman

Fans got treated to the first look for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. Loyal fans of the IP are anxious to see if Netflix’s able to do the source material justice. It’s supposed to come out soon.

Bruised

Oscar-winner Halle Berry’s directorial debut is getting ready to premiere this November. We got a special behind-the-scenes look at the MMA-centric movie as well as why Berry wanted to tell such a story. In my opinion, if the Bruised‘s award campaign works out well, the narrative of Berry (still the only Black actress to win a Best Leading Actress Oscar) having to freaking direct herself in a movie to likely get back into the award race after decades is quite strong and makes several points about Hollywood.

For those wondering, Bruised features a queer romance.

The behind-the-scenes footage is shown at the 1 hour 45-minutes mark!

Cowboy Bebop

Okay. If you have been following the Cowboy Bebop live-action series discourse online, it’s not pretty. A bunch of people already don’t like Netflix messing around with beloved anime properties. From what I can tell, the Cowboy Bebop live-action adaptation will need to be quite impressive for anime fans to give it a try. So, let’s see what happens on November 19, 2021.

Arcane

While we’re on the subject of adapting popular IPs, unlike the controversy around Cowboy Bebop, fans of the popular League of Legends franchise do seem to be looking forward to watching Arcane on November 6, 2021. Micah plans to review Arcane. So, keep an eye out.

Arcane stars Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, Kevin Alejandro, Katie Leung, and more.

Don’t Look Up

I don’t know what to think of Don’t Look Up. Yes, it has a stellar cast, but the humor featured in the sneak peek made me cringe. But perhaps that was the intention? I have a feeling Don’t Look Up will have a lot of cringe humor and it will make you feel awkward. Now, according to rumors, the film has a scene where Chris Evans’ character goes down on Jonah Hill’s queer character. I guess that’s something to look forward to?

The Witcher

Understandably, the Netflix Tudum event closed with The Witcher. Fans got treated to sneak peeks for the upcoming second season. It looks like Ciri will be undergoing a vigorous training process to survive in the deadly world of the popular fantasy-action series and understand her powers better. The second season of The Witcher will debut on December 17, 2021.

While I was ‘Meh!’ about The Witcher season one, I think I will give season two a try because it seems to be focusing more on Ciri (who also happens to be a queer character). As a fan of the game series, Micah plans to review the upcoming season.

This portion of the event also gave us behind-the-scenes footage for the prequel miniseries titled The Witcher: Blood Origin. The story is set 1200 years before the main series and it will explore the creation of the first Witcher.

There’s another animated film in the works, after the success of this year’s The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Apparently, there’s also a spin-off directed at kids which, considering the brutal nature of the franchise, I hope doesn’t end up harming the overall brand.

I’m here for the Netflix Tudum event being an annual thing moving forward. It was fun and I got to know about tons of new shows, movies, etc. I probably wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.

Which parts of the Netflix Tudum caught your attention?
