New CG-Animated Film “Resident Evil: Death Island” Gets Teaser Trailer!

A brand-new CG-animated Resident Evil film, titled Resident Evil: Death Island, will be released sometime in the Summer of 2023. And the fandom can finally get to see Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine interact with each other!

While an official release date for Resident Evil: Death Island hasn’t been shared as of yet, at least, there’s quite a lot of information about the plot provided by the promo material. The upcoming animated film will feature franchise mainstays Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy along with the much-anticipated return of Jill Valentine.

The plot deals with D.S.O. agent Leon S. Kennedy being on a mission to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from a bunch of kidnappers. However, a mysterious woman (Ada?) messes up his pursuit. While that’s happening, B.S.A.A. agent and sad queer for life (kudos to Capcom for always highlighting him, though!) Chris Redfield is busy investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco. The cause behind the infection can’t be identified. However, what’s interesting is that all of the victims visited Alcatraz Island recently. Of course, Chris takes his team to investigate the island. So, yeah, you can tell where the title Death Island came from.

The movie will be distributed worldwide (excluding Japan) by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The upcoming film is keeping Jill’s look from 2020’s Resident Evil 3 remake. Timeline-wise, we haven’t had Jill in any of the main Resident Evil games after the events of Resident Evil 5 which was released back in 2009. It’s nice to see she’s doing well. I think Jill will be part of the team tasked with rescuing Chris from the island. And getting to see Jill interact with Leon has already got the fandom excited. I do think the two must have met offscreen. In a sense, all of the major characters should have met each other due to their shared experiences. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if the in-movie dynamic between Leon and Jill has them already be familiar with one another.

Apparently, Rebecca Chambers will also return. So, yay, for that, too. I like Rebecca. She isn’t a “fighter” like her peers. But she’s still an important part of the RE lore.

Now, fingers crossed, that one day TPTB decide to bring back Sheva Alomar into the CG-animated film series. I would also like to see Chris and Claire share the screen together. The world needs to see the brother and sister duo back in action after the two worked together in the 2000’s video game Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

Resident Evil: Death Island has been directed by Assassination Classroom‘s Eiichiro Hasumi. The screenplay is from Psycho-Pass‘ Makoto Fukami.

Being the fourth CG-animated RE film, RE: Death Island will take place after the events of 2017’s RE: Vendetta.

As for other content that the fans can look forward to, the Resident Evil 4 remake is aiming for a March 24, 2023, release! Even though I’m not a fan of RE 4, I do understand the fandom chatter around it. With the original being considered one of the best, if not the best in the OG RE games, let’s see how the remake is recieved.
